Assisted Pull-ups. The majority of adults have trouble doing either a pull-up or building up repetitions. A great alternate to help with both is the assisted pull-up. Different thickness bands enable you to perfom the #movement using different percentages of body weight. A study published in the J. Strength & Conditioning with men and women looked at muscle recruitment using EMG comparing the pull-up and chin-up. As you can see from the % of muscle activation of the major muscles groups, any “pulling” movement using your body weight is pretty ideal.
