There are a lot of animals.

I also wanted to share some cute plushes I made for Clint from Clints Reptiles. I'm sure he recieved them by now ♡. He's my number one fav reptile guy. His videos started my need for reptiles in my life. I made these for him as a Thank you and a congratulations on his opening of his reptile room. ♡♡

Why should an animal that can’t lead a normal life exist purely due to humans being like “ooh it’s so pretty” or “omg it’s little head wobble is so cute”. On one end of the scale being a ‘slight wobble’ it can still be incredibly distressing for the snake visually - imagine constantly nodding your head for your entire life with no control over it. On the other end of the scale, imagine never having good balance, not knowing up from down, the frustration of missing where you’re aiming just to eat and the confusion on the occasion of going for the food and biting yourself in the process and not realising what’s happening, only that you’re in pain and hungry.

Morals are a HUGE part when it comes to things like this. All animals deserve to live, yes, but suffering should not be a part of it when it could be avoided altogether. Spiders only exist because select humans decided to breed them, this morph of snake would not survive naturally in the wild; it would be unable to sustain itself with its neurological issues and probably die off thus ending the problem. But then people came along and were attracted to the pattern, ignoring the issues for the sake of design. This is a living animal.

Personally, I think it’s selfish. However, if you do own a spider already and you take good care of it, you’re a good owner and this post is not for you. But if you’re actively seeking out to own this morph regardless of the neurological condition (unless it’s a rehome and you understand what you’re taking on and prepared to do right by the animal), then your morals need to be reevaluated.

Pettubers really arent even trying anymore 🙄

I just watched his video on spider ball pythons (SBP) and although a part of me thinks there are more arguments to be had based on the amount of breeders that are willing to defend the morphs, I thought all of his arguments were weak.

First of all, he started the video with a “facts don’t care about your feelings” type of argument that send me off right away and “this video is not for the close minded people” which I think it’s kinda manipulative but let us continue.  

One of his arguments was that the snake doesn’t show signs of being stressed or unhappy but (?) neither do pugs and other brachycephalic breeds yet here we are. 

He brought up the case that a lot of people are, rightfully, concerned whether or not the morph is suffering and I think that’s something we, indeed, should be concerced about but he’s response was that, to answer it, we should put ourselves in the shoes of the snake but since we wouldn’t even want to be normal snakes, the less we would want to be this morph. And I don’t know what argument is more idiotic if this one or the next one. 

First, I just want to clarify that I, myself, am not autistic nor do I know anyone that is, so if I’m wrong (and if somebody is actually reading this) please let me know. 

He said that a lot of people compare SBPs with autistic people and the comparition didn’t seem so far-off to him given that he had a lot of autistic friends that, despite their condition, all of them had some kind of special gifts (maybe hinting at things like photographic memory, not quite sure) that would make them not want to be “normal” if it meant they would have to give up that gift. 

Again, I haven’t met any autistic person but it seemed off, especially because there were some comments from people with other illnesses that made it clear they wouldn’t choose to have their condition if given the choice and also that he didn’t seem to acknowledge that there are different levels (or types?) of autism.
