he sees julie when he's on the verge of giving up or walking away and it's the sight of her that reminds him of what's at stake. she's the prism through which he sees and understands humanity because he loves her so much

and it's that she genuinely stands for what she says and what she believes, that she's a fighter, and that she doesn't take anybody's shit. she's honest when he's long lost the ability to believe in that honesty

and the one time that we see her see him (though i really think there must be more, like that man has seen her favorite tree) -- he is the one person who never turned his back on her, and who represents for her this safety and loyalty that she could never find. and who knows what shades it adds to her belter advocacy arc?

home never existed to either of them, and they hide from it (him) or try to chase it (her) and everything is emptiness until they find each other (yes, i did recently rewatch home and when she echoes his words back to him about the job he was on????? ("kidnap job?"))

not only do I think they're soulmates, i think they've been telling each other stories about each other, about them, through space and time so they could be together even in the moments when they're not and can't be together (when he riffs on how she got her scar and his partner is like oh did she tell you that and he's like yeah maybe??)

the necklace rosary and the photo that he keeps for his faith, the words that she repeats to him that echo through time, the words of his people that she's taken as a tongue for her own
