Day 6: Cisternino Bike Ride & Matera (driving day)
Sunday October 8 2023 Italia
Postives: Biking on the aqueduct trail and Gabriel going for his first (long) solo bike ride. Vito of NatureBike in Cisternino was awesome and super helpful in getting our family on our way! Great trail and beautiful ride. Seeing Matera- literally walking around a corner and being transported in time, one of those wow moments.
Challenges: Finding a place to park in Matera was challenging. You have to walk in so we couldn't bring the stroller but luckily we packed backpacks for the overnight. Papa and Mimi had a harder time and even "got lost" in the city.
Best Meal: Once we got settled and had some incredible gelato in Matera we went to a nice restaurant La Fredda Rosa (known for its specially made bread with tomatoes- similar to bruschetta. In the past it was eaten at any time of day in order to lesson hunger or in place of lunch or dinner.
Something we learned: We stayed in a cave hotel in Matera. Matera is one of the oldest places continually habited in the whole world. It have caves dating back BC.
Made us Smile: When on our bike ride, we unexpectedly visited a hindu temple. It was a nice break and centering experience even for the kids.
Un giorno all’improvviso mi innamorai di te
Oh Puglia, Puglia mia. Ti porto sempre nel cuore quando vado via.
Sunshine and wine and gelato and the best time was had in Puglia the past week. Italy has truly stolen my heart.
