blue-ribbon bunny by cicer
Summary: Shapeshifter Lan Wangji is caught off guard when he turns into a rabbit while doing his weekly errands. Fortunately, he runs into a kind young man who seems very eager to have a pet rabbit. Soon, Lan Wangji finds himself delaying his return to human form and struggling to spend a little more time with his new 'owner'.
(In which Lan Wangji is Bunji, a strong-willed yet surprisingly affectionate rabbit.)
My comments: Ohmygod. This is the DORKIEST thing. I love it.
Excerpt: "Wangji! You cannot always escape difficult situations by changing your form!"
But he laughs as he says it, so Bunji chooses to ignore his reproach.
Anyway, this tactic has always worked very well. As a child, he often coped with his troubles by reverting to rabbit form. Rabbits could do things that little boys couldn't, like hide underneath the furniture. Bunji also had the option of creeping into family members' laps for comfort. He liked that.
Perhaps it wasn't the most courageous way of resolving problems. But it was highly effective.
It's effective now, too. Lan Xichen sighs loudly, but he still scratches Bunji's back.
"Shall we talk about the kind gentleman who found you?" he wonders.
Bunji shakes his head. He cannot talk in this form. It's the greatest benefit of being a rabbit: conversation is entirely impossible.
