Spent the day working on covers for fic binds I want to do (2 of which aren’t even finished yet). Still work to do but this was a fun thought experiment today :)
Covers for my fics C’est Toi, Mazeru, and The Likeness
The “OrchidScript University Press” (aka knock off Oxford U. Press) is my favorite design.
And yes, I can tell you all about the art pieces I picked, if anyone would like to know :)

This is a sorta redo of a previous typeset except not really in certain ways. I did make some new additional pages to include and plan to use the 2 ‘image’ pages from within the 1st typeset as end papers. The new additional pages were created following the cover design I made this week. I love this fic…like really love this f ic however I have struggles so much with the cover. The cover took me about 9 minutes to make and is a super simplistic style. I did go back to it when I was doing the additional pages to add in a little billboard and Matts window with their shadows on it. I really like it and while you can’t really tell, the little red window has a shadows of Matt as Matt and Frank as the Punisher as a little inside hint to Matt knowing Franks identity and Frank not knowing his. Like I really love this fic. One of my top 10 of all time f ics which is why it was among the first typesets I’d made and one of the most intricate (for the time). I kept pretty much all of the elements from that 1st typeset and placed it here and then went through making little changes. This allows me to fix some of the little parts I disliked from the previous typeset and also makes it possible to download (and eventually print) a much higher quality copy. The typeset (on Affinity - not including the original google doc) took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to finish. The additional pages took 22 minutes to make. All together, all of the digital elements took about 1 hour and 41 minutes to complete.
after 9 months obsessing about bookbinding, watching hours of youtube videos and hundreds of talented fellow binders on tumblr… my time has finally come!
(actually i bound 2 little projects before this one but not fanfiction. and what i wanted above all was bind fanfiction.)
so I spent 3 weeks on the typeset in june and now that im home i printed it!! folded the signatures and pressed them with a bunch of books
and then sewed :)
aaaand build a minimal press (ok not a press just 2 woodboards and 2 clamps but it’s such and upgrade)
and glued the spine
and took the bus + carpool to get the edges cut in the nearest print shop, then sanded them
look how neat they are!!!
that’s it for now. next step is building the case, foiling it (so excited about that part it will be my first try), then foiling the edges if i have enough left over foil, sew endbands annnnd case it :) can’t wait!! updates coming soon
Being someone who keeps wanting to add more and more to a project, enjoys giving gifts, and does bookmaking/fanbinding as a hobby is a very dangerous combination
I originally wanted to do an image of a fancy hospital room or a cute vintage jacket with a more simplistic design however I struggled to find one I liked. I did play around with some images of 3 men or versions of the 3 characters but did not like the way it was going so I scrapped it all. In the first version, I placed a simple hospital room photo that I messed around with and added the info for. I still wasn't super happy with it so I decided to scrap that to potentially use somewhere else in the bind and start over. I found a photo of the actor in a jacket and made it look like a polaroid of him with the title/author. Then in the back I added a bunch of random medical scans, test results and an image of Tony’s shield file with drop shadows. For the back I made a ‘medical sheet’ with information from the fanfic. Version 2 cover took me 16 minutes to create.

An Internal Affair by nirejseki, robininthelabyrinth (nirejseki)
This is a typeset for a great Flash fanifc with the coldflash ship. I really like the chapter pages that I made for this fic. The fic follows a Len or Barry POV chapter for ever other chapter (I.e - Barry, Len, Barry, Len…) which I did using chapter pages for each character. They have a file with lanyard badge for the character which I really like how it has turned out. I also made a city police stamp to go at the top of the chapter page. I did also make a text seperator which I never used. I really like the overall look. The cover took me 40 minutes to make. The additional pages took me about 24 minutes in total. This typeset took me 1 hour & 5 minutes to make. In total the digital side of this bind took me approx 2 hours & 10 minutes.
tagged by @missmoonfrost and @brandileigh2003, thank you both!! every time i’m tagged in one of these i think i probably don’t have enough photos to be any fun and every time i end up having more than tumblr allows and actually have to narrow it down 😂

Batman - Bats Stole the Justice Leagues Brain Cells - Version 1 & 2
Bouncing Baby Bat, or so the Justice League is led to believe... by EmpressGeek
For his cover, I had already had a flash to a cover from Rosemarys baby which was 2 colours with the figure of Rosemary with a pram with a devil tail. I looked up the different covers from the book and decided to look for a photo of an older style pram. I placed that in the bottom centre and looked for a good spooky batman figure to place behind it. I added some shadows so it was more of a rising batman figure. I added a robin to the top of the buggy and matched the title colour with the robins breast and a white loopy author name. The back was simple with the two font types used to show the summary.
For the second version, I copied over an image from an older Rosemary's baby cover and cut out the devil baby image to copy the concept of the cover. I placed a side profile of Batman and I gave him a pregnant belly with some texture and the baby over the top. I gave the baby a Robin mask but also a version without. I did add a little robin to sit on the title though not sure if I like it more with or without it. The two covers took 30 minutes to make together.
