Unsolicited gift for my favourite trephacard authors: @chimaerakitten, @etherati, and @flightlesstree. I think it best fits "a hunter, a scholar, a soldier" by @flightlesstree because that's what I've been rereading most recently; but it's generally about them.. walking through the woods, or staying somewhere that holds memories, and having some time to remember, or to process. A little bit of quiet space.
Veeeeeery belatedly popping in to ask about âv negotiationsâ đ (unless someone already has and I missed it lol)
Very belatedly answering this! @sere-allwehaveisnow and @verdet-cadet and I were discussing how exactly the relationship dynamic VC wrote in her fic Sweet as Pomegranate Seeds mightâve come to be, and really convinced ourselves this is honestly the perfect relationship situation for all of them, and then this happened. I donât have very much at all written, though.

Tharkay stood to pour himself another glass of port from the decanter, wondering if it was too late to move to something stiffer. Laurence had returned to the small London townhouse Tharkay reluctantly kept in unusually good spirits, made loquacious by what seemed a very invigorating social outing at Janeâs invitation and perhaps an excess of drink; Tharkay felt, listening to Laurence natter on about which gentleman had said so-and-so and which dance had involved such-and-such (chiefly a significant amount of Jane stepping on his toes, it seemed, told with no small amount of fondness), that he ought catch up to Laurenceâs state of intemperance rather than curb it.
âAre you well, Tenzing?â Laurence asked, and Tharkay realized he had been standing at the sideboard too long. With a shrug, he reached for the bottle of whisky; surely, there was no harm in it.
âQuite,â he replied, and schooled his face away from the grimace that kept attempting to make itself known as he sat back down beside Laurence on the divan. âAnd how is Her Grace, then?â
Trick or treat!
Happy Halloween!
Here's a WIP of a Wolf 359 filk set to "Signy Mallory"
She's the captain of Hephaestus, and a thorn in Goddard's side Protector of the station, she's a source of grudging pride Left a dying mission with one thought inside her head: To wreck the bastard company that left her crew for dead. Captain Lovelace rose again, won't stay dead, they say; The captain of Hephaestus knows the price you have to pay. Come back again, and back again, left only with her name, Captain Lovelace rose again, with eyes of ice and flame.
Directorâs commentary: your pick of recent podfics youâve done
for this âfanfic directorâs commentaryâ ask game
I am the director of those⊠hah nice. Iâm also everything else, but u know.
Iâll talk about my most recent podfic, of @ilovedthestarsâs âTheyâll Never Pull The Triggerâ! One that I kept turning over in my head until I had to podfic it <3
Though something I learned first off: âTheyâll never pull the triggerâ was a weirdly difficult phrase to say out loud. It mushes around in my mouth lol.
I had a lot of fun incorporating sound effects and soundscaping in âRedshirt Requiem,â âInheritance,â and âsecurityunit.patchâ but for this one, I leaned harder into voice acting. Iâd never quite done that to this extent before!
Pin-Leeâs dialogue, when I recorded it, didnât quite feel urgent enough. I played with ways to speed it up to make it feel more clipped and urgent, and my first attempt ended up with a squeaky pitched-up Alvin and the Chipmunks voice that had me cracking up and utterly ruined the scene. I could not do that. Playing with the Audacity tools, I found there is a tool for speeding up sound without pitch-shiftingâI didnât know it was possible to do smoothly, but just the slightest touch faster made her dialogue sound more urgent, more like an emergency.
Gurathin was a bold foray into ~*~doing accents.~*~ Acting through an accent not yours and keeping i consistent is hard! MAD props to actors who can do that well. In my headcanon cinematic universe, Gurathin is spacefuture Welsh, and I tried to aim for a Welsh accent for him, to make him vocally stand out from the nativeborn Preservationers and language-module Murderbot. Turns out I have no idea how to do a Welsh accent and it landed closer to Irish, which I feel like I have a better understanding of. I like to think my Irish-accent Gurathin is better thought-through and less wildly inconsistent (not not inconsistent, I can hear the inconsistencies upon relisten), but less wildly inconsistent, than the Graphic Audioâs Irish(?) accent Ratthi. Lol
For the cover art, I was worried that it would be too cheesyâI was really looking for a stock image of a gun held against someoneâs back, but couldnât find anything that looked right. The gun facing the viewer directly is. I donât know if it gets the vibe across? Itâs aggressive. But the look is meant to evoke shooting through the haze of the red malware.Â

Reverse unpopular opinion ask game: traveling light (sorry, I had to đ)
This was inevitable wasn't it :P
Something I will unreservedly praise Travelling Light for: the voice acting! H. R. Owen, the voice of the Traveller and the single narrator of the podcast, is a very talented narrator/voice actor. Their voice acting in the show is emotional, engaging, and expressive, and they are very good at portraying emotion through voice work, and making all the different characters and aliens sound distinctive and vibrant. I listen to them and I believe I'm hearing different people speaking, with different vocal tones and mannerisms, even when it's all the same voice.
Very tempted to make a joke here (would you ever writeâŠabout Murderbot?) but for realsies:
Would you ever write something set on the original planet the presst had to flee?
I was gonna make a return joke but then realized that, because your question phrased it as being about the character, it's kind of a serious question đ€Ł Most of my AO3 works are set in the Murderbot Diaries, but I do LOVE to write (and read!) fics where the titular protagonist and viewpoint character of the books takes a goddamn backseat. Sit down boyo (gender-neutral) (affectionate), I want to hear about the OTHER bots and constructs in this universe now.
Would I ever write something set on the planet that the Pressy had to flee? I did consider it, but I dropped the idea for lack of direction. It was super inspired by the end of Fugitive Telemetry and Indah's attitude to the refugees, though, and would've been about how Consuela Makeba handled the original refugees:
When Captain Makeba went down to the failed colony in a show of good faith to the refugees, her first lieutenant was shot by the very stranded people she had hoped to offer aid to. Famously, she was angry. But the people of the failed colony were desperate, and frightened, and once-betrayed-twice-untrusting, and just as famously, she knew it. That Captain Consuela Makeba could hold onto her compassion alongside her anger is why Preservation exists today.

hi chi! u get:
this screenshot of a cool design i saw in the translation notes of Golden Kamuy! Unlike most of the other Ainu cultural elements that appear in this manga, the context this design appears in isn't super important (some weirdo has covered himself in random designs), but the design itself is cool :3 (thought you might appreciate the translation notes as well!)
