Portrait of the Painter Anton Peschka, 1909
Oil and metallic paint and pencil on canvas, 110.2 x 100cm
Schiele's portrait of his friend and later brother-in-law (Peschka married Gerti Schiele) is in the Klimt style. The silhouette, chair and background all establish flat two-dimensionality rather than the illusion of space. The composition is relieved by Viennese Art Nouveau motifs.
