Secret Agent is a studio album by Chick Corea, recorded and released in 1978. It is a musically diverse release that features Corea’s long-standing collaborators Joe Farrell on reeds and woodwinds, percussionist Airto, and vocalist Gayle Moran (Corea’s wife). Al Jarreau sings “Hot News Blues”, and a four piece brass section and string quartet also appear.

Chick Corea/Return to Forever – Return to Forever

Return to Forever is a jazz fusion album by Chick Corea recorded over two days in February 1972 but was not released in the USA until 1975—Corea’s fourth release for the label. It is the debut of a quintet featuring singer Flora Purim, flautist/saxophonist Joe Farrell, bassist Stanley Clarke and percussionist Airto Moreira, who would go on to record under the name Return to Forever.

Reception

The AllMusic review by Steve Huey awarded the album 5 stars out of 5 stating that “This edition of Return to Forever wasn't inclined toward high-voltage jazz-rock (as the next one was), but this group's two albums still stand as some of the most imaginative and distinctive early fusion recordings.”

RETURN TO FOREVER – MUSICMAGIC

Musicmagic is the final studio album by the American jazz fusion band Return to Forever, released in 1977.

This album contains the final line-up of the band from the 1970s, with only founders Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke returning from the previous album. This is the first album since Light as a Feather (1973) to contain vocals, featuring Stanley Clarke and Corea’s wife Gayle Moran. This album also marks the return of original member Joe Farrell on saxophone and flute, along with several new members making up a five-piece horn section.

The jazz supergroup featuring Stan Getz, Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Tony Williams famously performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 23, 1972. While sometimes misdated as 1971 in casual mentions, official records and subsequent releases confirm the 1972 date.

This quartet represented a significant shift for Getz, moving from his famous bossa nova and cool jazz sound toward the rising jazz fusion movement.
