Jason grace, born too human to be god and too godly to be human. Jason had no guidance, no family, few friends and even with the fates stacked against him he was still expected to succeed, Jason grace was set up to die miserably or become a shell of a human,
In the end Jason grace was his status, his training, his scars and marks but never once was Jason grace a teenager

Water coded characters but instead of being the calm, soft, healing one they're like an ocean; relentless and terrifying, always dragging things back into the heart of them and never surrendering it, like a rip, poisonous to any who intake to much of them, prone to tempest and storm.
Fire coded characters but instead of being erratic, emotional, 'fiery' and destructive they are like a hearth; a low constant heat, warm and inviting, nurturing to those around them, a focal point for family and gathering together, providing clarity and light and guidance in darkness, slowly but surely burning themself out in sacrifice for the comfort of those around them.

It is not that hard to make nonhuman characters, Black coded. Sometimes itâs not enough to give them a vague, ugly looking afro textured hairstyle(itâs more prominent in the water mom). You have to put thought into the world building, and how it interacts with their Blackness. Osmosis Jones works, because in his world building heâs just a cell that works in a city that operates as a human body. Race relations isnât really the focus here, so heâs just doing his own thing. The voice actor and design just carries the Blackness within the character
Elementals on the other hand, is all about race relations. Fine. Sure. Whatever. Aside from terrible design, what here is supposed to indicate that the water family here are Black? Having the Black family act like a rich White family that comments how âwell-spokenâ a fire person is able to talk, are you kidding me?

Y'all, racial stereotypes are overexaggerated and meant to generalize a group as a whole....
Yes, racial stereotypes are technically coding, but that doesn't mean racial coding itself is based on stereotypes. [Think square = rectangle but rectangle =/= square.]
If it was all the same, you can not create any characters with a race because anything can be a stereotype by their POV.
Gave your white oc straight hair? "Racist. Not all white people have straight hair."
Gave your black oc dark skin? "Racist. Not all black people have darker skin."
Your character comes from a place with a language other than English, and they dare speak in that language? "Racist. Not every person knows their home language."
All of these rebuttals in isolation are correct, but context is extremely important. Yes, if someone claims an entire group of people have to look like XYZ to be a certain race, that's stereotyping. Making characters who happen to have very common traits among certain races, specifically the one they're meant to represent, is not.
You can literally spin anything into being racist if you view characters with this amount of malicious intent.
Getting so butthurt over someone simply calling a character X-coded (especially when it's confirmed and extremely obvious) is so incredibly dumb.
Getting mad at people critical of an X-coded character because there's no traits for people to actually connect the dots (without reading an outside source) is also extremely dumb.
TLDR: Racial coding is simply giving characters traits to represent a certain race. Racial stereotypes are still coding, but that doesn't mean racial coding itself is inherently stereotypical. Otherwise, every depiction of race is a stereotype and/or racist.
hi! :D you've said before that you see mcu loki as ND-coded, and i'm curious about your specific thoughts on that. personally, i've mostly thought about this in terms of acquired mental illness stemming from trauma, but if i'm interpreting you correctly, you see him as innately neurodivergent? which is a fun + interesting take. are you thinking of a specific diagnosis, and/or is there a specific moment that stands out to you as ND Behaviour, or is it more of an overall vibe?
It started by thinking of Loki being ND-coded metaphorically, but I think he shows some behaviors. I will be breaking this down into actual behaviors and metaphors. I have ADHD, so I tend to skew his diagnosis towards that or AuDHD (and I have a mutual that thinks BPD also fits rather well and they're welcome to join in, lol).
Metaphors (movies):
1. The Jotun reveal. Aliens and changelings (both of which Loki is in cannon to Asgard) are common in metaphors to describe autism. From both the NDâs perspective as being in âAnother planetâ and from the NTâs perspective.
âA persistent trope in some autism communities is that autistic people are aliens, or, symmetrically, that non-autistic people seem like aliens to autists. Some autists are attracted to the metaphor of the alien to describe their own condition, or to say that they find other people alien (Hacking, 2009).â
âIn addition to failure to thrive, before the development of modern medicine and psychiatry, it is very likely that any number of childhood disorders were interpreted as stolen children. Several modern authors have suggested that, in pre-scientific eras, children born with autism and other developmental disorders were probably considered changelings (Ashliman 1997; Wing and Potter 2002). 2. Loki does not fit in at Asgard, the only home heâs known. His friends are actually Thorâs rather than his, and seem to tolerate him rather than like him.
3. Loki also gets blamed for misdeeds without good evidence: The W4 start suspecting a crown prince based on an enemyâs words and they assume Loki wants to harm Asgard. I think itâs important to note that they donât assume he just wants the crown; they assume in his very short reign, that heâll harm Asgard, which is never in his plans. And itâs unlikely they cared about Jotunheim since they wanted Thor back right away.
A parallel to being ND is that people distrust and even villainize you due to your mannerisms (e.g. âweird and quietâ). And Iâve talked about how I think Asgard promotes a very ridiculously straight forward mannerisms on its population to make self-policing easier. So Lokiâs mannerisms must have clashed with the general populationâs for them to distrust them so easily.
4. Lokiâs main power-set being illusions, and unbeknownst to him, being changed into something he wasnât born as (Jotun -> Asgardian), is a power-set analogous to masking (i.e. the process through which NDs camouflage themselves to fit in better).
Masking involves a lot of rehearsing and suppression to act in a more socially acceptable way. â Loki also needs to be useful to be appreciated
5. Thor being preferred for acting in ways deemed more socially acceptable by Asgard and Odin. A personal experience from me is getting shit to this day about how I was âso difficult as a toddler, unlike your brother!â and some mean comment about how I made life hell because they couldnât take me to public places.
Some traits Loki showcases (and seem relatable to my ADHD-ass):
1. Tendency to fidget (in the movies and series). I think itâs even more noticeable in the series, where heâs doing random shit with stamps and hammers while he speaks to people (S2E1 talking with OB). Itâs like he canât stay still.
2. I pulled something very similar to the salad scene around an older mentor figure. It was rice I kept squishing in my hand while going off in a rant. My former mentor found my behavior amusing, for the most part, and never let me live that down.
3. Tendency to info-dump about how his magic works.
4. Poor impulse control (Loki series, gets drunk in a train, and cut Sifâs hair just because â I HC he wanted to sabotage the relationship out of fear of vulnerability).
And thatâs on top of the trauma-based extreme fear of abandonment he showcases in pretty much everything heâs been in.
