I’m the same anon that liked the Yan!Char profile! I’d like to request a drabble or headcannons for Yandere Char x (Gender neutral) Childhood friend reader. Char would do a lot to keep his past from his darling, but I’ve been ruminating on the idea of them finding out anyways. Maybe they use to be childhood sweethearts but separated after Char and Sayla’s escape to Earth. They reunite years later but, Char doesn’t realize who his darling is until sometime into their relationship. I Imagine much of his childhood is a blur to him.
When darling confronts him about his identify, I wonder if he’d be face with the vulnerability of being seen? The fear of losing his Darling’s affections? Or maybe he’s more stunted by the idea that they love him anyways.
Sorry if that’s too long or specific. You’re free to change the prompt with however it inspires you! Thank you for letting me be indulgent in your asks💕
Yandere char x (gender neutral) childhood friend!
Warnings: typical yandere obsessiveness, nothing besides that! Honestly, this is rather cute
An: I absolutely loved writing this! Char is always a fun challenge to write for, and the childhood friend trope allowed me to write him a little softer than he’d normally be. Also, I went ahead and made him a bit of a yandere as a kid too, I thought it suited what we saw of him as a kid in origin.
feel free to send in more requests if you'd like!

Even as a young child, Casval had had quite a crush on you. He didn't know what exactly made him so drawn to you, and as such a young child he would simply resort to keeping those feelings tucked away out of sight. It was embarrassing, how you made him feel. He hated the way he felt nervous in your presence and how your kindness made him fluster. It was unusual for him to be shaken, and he didn’t like it one bit. You make him act so unlike himself he can’t help but hate it.
Your parents had been friends of his parents, most likely his mother; who was sweet and kind to everyone around her. And of course, one day they brought you into his life- you; standing in the foyer in your coat to ward off the chilly air next to your family, who talked to his mother. You’d seen him on the staircase and had given a little smile and a wave. Casval wasn't the smiley type of boy, at best putting on a polite facade and at worst keeping his stone faced demeanor. But he offers you a little wave regardless. It’s Artesia who actually manages to help you and Casval connect. She’s younger than the two of you, but she would always make a point to be near the two of you- the children of Deikun weren’t often able to play freely with their peers, and both of them were in dire need of a friend- Artesia wore this openly, but Casval was much more closed off about the fact.
It’s not easy for him to open up, even when he was young, but you found a way to break through his defenses. Maybe it was a quick wit, maybe it was ceaseless kindness, maybe it was unwavering determination to befriend him regardless of his cold demeanor. But no matter the cause, he finds himself warming up to you. He did his best to keep it hidden- tried to find more reasonable explanations for his warmth towards you. Excuses like ‘your family was close with his, it would be inconvenient for there to be bad blood between the two of you’ and ‘artesia considers you a dear friend, he would never push you away if it pushed you from artesia as well’. But his parents, and likely your parents, and even artesia knew the truth. That Casval had a little crush on you.
Likely unknown to them, was the depth of Casval’s feelings for you. There was a part of him that was innocent with youth, that could be flustered just by your hand grazing his, and a part of him that couldn’t help but smile at the sound of your laughter, so bright and beautiful. But also, there was a part of him that hated anyone else you spoke to- that hated the idea of you having other friends. Part of him felt hot with anger when your parents would take you home in the evening- take you from him. It wasn't right, and it wasn't normal, but Casval was able to keep the majority of it hidden from view. He was just…protective of you. And you were oblivious to it. He wanted to keep it that way. It wouldn’t do for you to realize how you’d seeped your way into his mind and heart, and it wouldn't do for you to realize he had feelings for you. Not if it could possibly take you from him.
That’s why it’s so tragic when the death of his father tears him away from you. It’s a whirlwind of chaos happening all around him. His father is dead. They say the Zabi family is responsible. His mother is locked into a tower. He and his sister must flee to earth. Casval knows that amongst all this chaos you must be out there too- he hopes you’re alright, in a rare moment of optimism- and then scolds himself for thinking that. He can't afford to worry about you right now. You’ll be alright, your family will care for you. He turns his mind away from you as best he can. He likely wouldn't be seeing you, his dearest friend, ever again, and he has to be ok with that.
In the years that follow, he thinks of you less and less- not as a natural result of passing time, but by conscious effort to keep his mind away from trivial thoughts like ‘what if’. You were gone from his life now, likely having forgotten all about him, likely convinced he had died, and maybe you’ve even found happiness of your own. He doesn't let himself think about it if he can help it. He hates the idea of you being happy with someone else. He hates the idea of you forgetting him. Sometimes, when he can’t help it, he wonders if you ever think of him.
That’s why it’s amazing, unbelievable even, when by chance in a room of hundreds, he sees a familiar face. Your face. It’s been years, and you’re older now- grown attractive with the passing years, with a voice that draws him in and a way about conversation that keeps his attention focused only on you. He can’t take his eyes off you, even behind that mask he worries someone will notice his staring, worries you’ll notice- but no one does, and you don’t either. How have you come back into his life after so many years? Could such a thing really be by chance? That his childhood friend- childhood sweetheart, if he was being honest- just happened to be in the same palace at the same time as him, despite the years and the distance that had separated you all this time? No, it’s not by chance at all, and Char won’t waste the opportunity to finally make you his.
He approaches you- he’s witty and charming and you seem glad for the good company, likely bored with the simple minded and uptight company that this gathering had drawn. Char is glad that you so happily accept his company. It was better if this goes according to plan, he’d hate to have to use other means to draw you towards him. It’s much much better if you just come to him all on your own, simply because you enjoy his company. Of course, his reputation likely helps; the red comet. He preens a bit when you call him that. Of course you’d be impressed with all he’d accomplished, but he’s much more interested in what you have been up to in the time he’d been absent from your life.
He pries as much as he can without coming off too strong, glad to hear that once the chaos of Deikun’s death had settled, your family had been alright and you had been able to live a safe life. He happily listens to you speak of your hobbies- a few of which you still enjoyed from childhood, and his heart seemed lighter at the prospect that the person he had grown so close to in his youth was still the same. In a lot of ways, you were. Time had made you mature, and had changed some things, but Char is thrilled to find that so much of what he loved about you remained the same. Love- surely that was a slip up in his mind; an exaggeration of his feelings caused by his excitement at the prospect of you in his life once more. Nothing more.
You’re oblivious, of course, to who he truly is. Char feels confident of that by the way your nerves are alight with the newfound interest, the way you seem drawn in to him but cautious all the same. And that was for the best- Casval was dead and gone, and you remembering him would do neither of you any good. All that remains is Char Aznable.
He devotes a fair bit of time to spending with you- maybe more than was appropriate; if you factored in all of the time he spent thinking of you and plotting your next meeting, practising his honeyed words and his casual grace- making a point to set up another chance to see you, and quickly becoming close with you once more. You seemed almost eager to spend time with him, and he allows himself to indulge in the idea that you might be charmed, at least slightly, by him. Your friendship felt familiar to him, a comfort he’d thought he’d lost long ago. Everything he had known in his childhood- his parents, his home, his friends, even his younger sister- were gone to him now. But you have returned. Char seems to fit perfectly into your life, like he’d always been there, like your heart had always had a place just for him.
You talk about your childhood from time to time, rarely of the Deikun family, but occasionally you do. And when you speak of a boy named Casval, Char takes the chance to pry just a bit. He feigns ignorance on the subject, but you fill him in slightly from your perspective. To his surprise, you don't talk about Casval and Artesia through the lens of politics but through the lens of a fond memory. You talk about the afternoons you had spent in their company, the way you had been so happy. Char keeps his reactions carefully controlled, he can’t risk seeming overly interested, but equally avoids dismissing your story. He drinks in every word. Something you say about him- about Casval- stands out. The way you describe him; there’s a fondness in your voice, as well as a sadness, and the words you use seem soft with affection. Your voice seems suddenly present, though still warm, when you speak, “He was my first love.” you turn to Char then, like you expect some kind of reaction.
Do you hope he’ll be jealous? You’ll have to try harder. He fights down the smile that threatens to cross his lips; your feelings are evident to him in that moment. For all the little flirtations between the two of you since rekindling your relationship, you’d been falling for him as he had for you- or more accurately- you’d been falling back in love with him.
You carry on, turning back to him, with the softness of your words now shining in your eyes. You seem emboldened by your recollection of the past, as if you’ve come to a revelation. If he had the chance, he’d tease you about discussing your past love life so openly, and with the man you were nearly courting, no less. But it was charming, he would assure you, how you could love so deeply after so long. It’s one of the many things about you that he’s grown fond of.
Before he gets the chance, you speak once again, “you must know that, though.” your voice is light, almost giddy with a sort of joy, spoken quietly. It takes him by surprise. What? What could you possibly be on about now? He watches the shape of your lips around the syllables that follow, unmistakably shaping the name he’d left behind. His real name. “Casval.”
A million different revelations reach him at once. You know who he is. You’ve always known who he is. You know who he is and you still told him of your crush. You’d confessed your love for him. You meant to confess your love for him. His name- his real name- sounds perfect on your lips. You know who he is and you love him, and you always had.
Being seen for what he is- who he is- is strange. For a second, it brings forth a claustrophobic sense of dread. You remember him- when he was childish and small and fumbled uselessly with his words in your presence. You remember him when he was a spoiled child with an ill mannered tongue and a frigid gaze. You remember his family and what they stood for and what had happened to them. For such a split second, he feels as if you can see him in his entirety, aware of all of his plans and schemes and ambitions. But the easiness of your words assure him otherwise. You wouldn’t speak to him so easily if you knew all the creeping thoughts he swallows down.
He should be upset by this- if he can’t even hide his identity from one person, how can he possibly hope to fool the rest of the galaxy. If you’d known, why had you played along? If you’d known, why wait until now to tell him so? He realizes that something in his plan had gone horribly wrong, and it was you. Reaching out to you had compromised everything. He doesn't regret it though, not really. If you were going to reveal him to the nation of zeon, you would have by now. Instead, you breathe the words in a quiet tone, just between the two of you. A secret between just the two of you. He lets a smile play on his lips.
Char reaches forward, into the space between you to take your hand. It fits in his perfectly, like he knew it would. You don’t pull away. “You’ve figured me out, hm?” There's a lilt of humor to his voice, comfortable despite the sudden reveal. As if you hadn’t surprised him a bit. But he knows his words are only half true- he’d never fooled you to begin with. It’s disconcerting, that you can see right through his ruse, that you figured him out and now he knows he’ll never be rid of you- nor you of him. Because now he could never let you go. Char Aznable- once Casval Rem Deikun- had been a constant in your life, and would remain that way, he’d see to that.
For now, the two of you stand hand in hand, all at once everything between you feels different. You’d been confident moments ago, but now your heart stutters with the knowledge that you had passed the point of no return. Char is suddenly so certain of what your future held, and you for once are unable to tell who was standing beside you. Casval had returned to you, but not as he was. The man beside you now is unmistakably Char Aznable, no one else.
