Plant of the Day
Friday 12 March 2021
Given the title of βChampion Treeβ due to the size of this Lonicera quinquelocularis (translucent honeysuckle) which is a native of the Himalaya and China. This plant makes a large shrub with young shoots being purplish, and very downy, the flowers are creamy white changing to yellow and arranged in pairs. Here pruning or loose of older branches has caused masses of smooth vertical shoots to be produced in contrast with the wonderful texture of the older stems.
