Endemic to Scotland Primula scotica (Scottish primrose) is found on the cliff tops and the exposed landscapes of Orkney, Caithness and Sutherland. This small plant grows on moist but well-drained, grazed grasslands. Under-grazing or over-grazing can be damaging to this species.

The orchid Lycaste suaveolens is found growing in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua. It is a pseudobulbous epiphyte and grows primarily in the wet tropical forest. Here the species is flowering in a warm glasshouse.

A section of a woodland garden at the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Wisley, Surrey, has been set aside to celebrates fungi. Logs have been inoculated with the heartwood fungus Trametes versicolor (turkeytail) which is a small, tough, bracket fungus that grows in tiered layers on dead wood. Fungi belong to their own kingdom and get their nutrients and energy from organic matter, rather than photosynthesis used by plants.

My young plant of Aspidistra fasciaria 'Ginga Giant' (cast iron plant) has produced a flower. These rhizomatous, evergreen perennials have inconspicuous star-shaped flowers borne on the rhizome at soil level and in the wild these can be pollinated by slugs, small midges and other flies.
