Rambling about Fairies - Manga Chapter 174
Love the panel parallels here. Similar to Lucy, they don’t exactly like their counterparts right off the bat, and they really want to talk it out with them about how they disagree with their actions.
But unlike Lucy and her counterpart, these two actually get along quickly, like brothers almost, and that’s cute.
One thing I love about Natsu is that Mashima doesn’t shy away from making Natsu look pathetic. (Though, he does go too far with it in 100yq). But I love Edo-Natsu for how cute he is.
I have a thing for usually pathetic characters that are dark horses in terms of power, and Edo-Natsu is exactly that.
I do love how Lucy always find a time to sneak in a tease. It’s a part of her personality I wish became more prominent.
I like how their sitting positions differ, for the same reasons as Cana’s counterpart has different sitting positions.
Oh, one more contrast between Natsu and Edo Natsu-- Edo-Natsu speaks very sweet and soft-spoken, with a very meek and boyish voice, even though it’s the same voice actor. And that reminds me of Changeling, when Natsu’s voice actor tried to imitate Loke’s sleepy, suave voice.
That gets even more similar in these following scenes, when Edo-Natsu cowers away from Lucy just like Loke used to do, and Natsu chides him about not bullying him despite Lucy having done nothing, just like how they used to do for Loke.
So technically, Edolas arc is, allegorically, working its way through the first few arcs in its own way.
Ch191, What blood type again?
Well, this is actually about ch174 and ch190, thanks to something @fwippysays mentioned in the comments of a post from earlier today.
There is some confusion in the fandom (read: I'm really confused) which lord of the stars Layla/Al must be. Sure, they talk like Vega in ch123, and the two sets of things in that room (shown in ch117) could be used by someone with DID or a similar condition. However, I'm really struck by what Layla says to Baldo and Lau about how their blood tastes like "her" food. As if it's the same type she receives as transfusions. I have no idea whether Yana-san wants bizarre dolls to have that ability, but 🤷🏻♀️.
Anyway, Lau and Baldo are Canopus, according to Ada, but Layla/Al is being set up as Vega.
Then @fwippysays mentioned that ch174 clearly shows that Conny is Vega...
...but ch190 makes it look like Conny donated again...
...this time sitting at a machine that ends in "-us", as if he's Canopus.
As if he's one of the volunteers to give Baldo blood.
Conny has recently donated blood, since he's wearing a bandage there, and the facility stopped collecting for the Aurora Society, but that doesn't mean he was hooked up to a machine with a Canopus bottle on it.
He could have been hooked up to a Vega one. Or, they hooked him up to a Canopus one but still collected his Vega blood. Because this is a special situation where they know the donor and the recipient, and because:
We are talking whole blood transfusions here, so Canopus can definitely accept blood from Vega.
Conny can still donate to Baldo. Because Vega is type-O, the whole blood universal donor. It could be that, like Blavat knowing a Sirius renal patient could accept leftover blood from Vega and Polaris, Ada might know that Canopus can still accept blood from Vega.
So, I don't actually see any discrepancy here.
For whatever reason, the lords of the stars seem to be purists, when it comes to the blood they receive by transfusion. Maybe they (and Undertaker) don't know about the crossovers in blood types.... 🤷🏻♀️
One thing I'd like to say is that, while he could be checking for Ada's name in his notebook, it's also possible, from the way he's flipping through pages, that he's checking for the patients in the room.
Why could that be?
1. They're people who should've died long ago, but they didn't.
2. They are all going to die very soon.
3. Or three, all of the above, they're people who should've died long ago and didn't, but are going to die very soon, all at once. Kind of like we saw with Othello.
I'd be more inclined to go with the last option, but, nonetheless, I'd still say he's checking for others and not necessarily Ada herself. (Though of course, this is a blatant, "Oooh, look, a shinigami is checking his death agenda, watch out!!" because he probably should've checked already, seeing as he was already there before Lau and Bard got there. But well, let's say he hasn't been there for too long either for the sake of it.)
A bit of a crack theory would be the bookmarks... I wonder if on those pages there are certain people with whom 'care should be taken'... hmm.
LETS GOOOOOOO
