Yk what I was thinking about how I should have a notebook where I breifly list the things I learned from article what If I just do that on tumblr <3
SO from the very lovely plant cell ER review:
-There are three main ER shaping proteins: reticulon proteins (generate ER tubules), Lunapark proteins (generate cisternae) and atlastins (which basically fuse ER membrane together in order to have branched structure in plants the atlastin is the ever popular RHD3 protein <3)
-The ER is pressed up against the plasma membrane and barely connects to the nuclear envelope in plants (???) apparently only a small volume of ER tubules do??? I am so fucking confusing gang <3
-The ER has a large surface on which sets of enzymes called "metabolons" can form which means it can spatial organize different metobolic pathways (this is so unbelievably beautiful I love the ER)
-The proportion of the ER cisternea and tubules can vary greatly between cells and species and the ratio between the two can tell us things about cells. For example, cells that secrete a lot of products generally have more cisternae
Thank you <3 next report coming maybe someday <3
