HOME OF THE ROAST

Harry’s Hofbrau is a favorite spot for seniors (after all, it was founded in 1954) and those seeking cafeteria-style food and hand-carved meat (roast turkey, pastrami, roast beef, smoked ham, corned beef, pork loin, rotisserie chicken).  Choose from sandwiches, carvery plates, salads (side and meal-size), daily specials, and desserts. There’s a senior dinner and a children’s dinner. If you’d like a salad, there are many types of cheese and bread from which to choose.

When you enter, you’ll line up to order. Grab a tray and the employee will place your meal on it.  They’ll even carry the tray to your table for you. Choose your own table. There are several kinds of mustard at each table.

Stuffed cabbage rolls dinner ($13.24): 2 cabbage rolls smothered in a chunky tomato sauce, stuffed with rice and ground meat. Everything was bland but decent,  The dinner comes with two sides (chose two salads), roll & butter. The roll was small and soft. The spinach salad had a sweet dressing that I didn’t like. The Caesar salad was soggy because it had been dressed a long time ago.

Senior dinner ($17.74): hand-carved entrée (roast beef), hot side order (broccoli), mashed potatoes and roll & butter, drink, dessert (strawberry jello). This came with five thick slices of roast beef (they looked tender).

The restaurant is huge and features indoor and outdoor seating, fireplace, private dining room, TVs tuned to sports games, and a full bar (wine, beer). Harry’s also has a large private parking lot. It looks like an old European beer hall.
