Regulus pressed his entire body against the brunette, resting his forehead on his chest and took a deep breath, savoring the sweet scent he loved so much.
They stayed silent for a while, and James was almost certain that the younger one had drifted off when he spoke unexpectedly.
"You know, I think I might love James," he said sleepily, in a way that Potter couldn't determine if he was talking in his sleep or if he was still awake. "His eyes have such a beautiful shade of chocolate... I love it when he looks at me with those eyes. I feel like he really sees me, and I think he really likes what he sees. At least I hope so..."
James listened to those words, not quite sure what to do. If he should do anything at all. On one hand, it was music to his ears, but on the other, he couldn't bear the way Regulus perceived himself, as revealed in those few words. Too bad the boy probably wouldn't remember any of this the next day.
"I really love him..." the younger one continued. "And you know what? I hope he loves me too, even though I can't understand how anyone could love someone like me. I'm not the best boyfriend material, especially not for him. Yet, whenever he's around, I feel like I'm in heaven."
The brunette's heart ached as he listened, but at that moment, he couldn't do anything about it. It seemed like Regulus was talking in his sleep; his eyes were closed, yet his tone became more coherent with each word. Eventually, he sighed heavily. "Just don't tell him I told you that, okay?"
Potter felt like laughing at that. Clearly, fatigue and alcohol had taken their toll on Regulus, and he wasn't in control of what he was saying. Leaning slightly over him, he brought his lips close to his ear.
"I won't tell him, I promise," he assured, and he would bet that he saw a hint of a smile on Black's face, which disappeared immediately, replaced by the blissful expression of deep sleep.
