Best/worst deathtraps Wily devised?
What a cheery question! Welp, you asked for it.
A deathtrap is a literary plot device in which the villain attempts to dispose of the hero using the extravagant methods of a mustache-twirling bond villain. When analyzing a deathtrap, there are three factors to compare. First there’s its effectiveness, obviously: will it kill the hero? Then there’s the deathtrap’s inescapableness (dictionary.com sez it’s a word!), because even effective deathtraps are useless if the hero can break free. Finally, there’s overall creativity of the deathtrap, ‘cause if you’re going to skip the practically of just shooting the hero, the deathtrap better be over the top and memorable, otherwise what’s the point in using one at all?
On the spot, improvised deathtrap. Futuristic civilizations really need to learn not to install these. Effectiveness: 5/5Inescapableness: 4/5Creativity: 1/5Overall: 10
Probably the one that best qualifies as a deathtrap, between paralyzing its captives, being made of impenetrable armor, submerged deep under water and rigged to explode.Effectiveness: 5/5 Inescapableness: 4.5/5Creativity: 5/5 (though a quadrupedal robot lab is goofy in concept)Overall: 14.5
For humans, this would be a pretty grizzly way to go. For robots, I’m not so sure, it would depend if the factory blades are actually strong enough to slice through metal, or if they’d just get jammed.Effectiveness: 3/5 Inescapableness: 2/5Creativity: 3/5Overall: 8
This makes more sense than a canning factory as the machine is specifically built to tear apart robots.Effectiveness: 5/5 Inescapableness: 3/5 Creativity: 3/5Overall: 11
Again, like the tuna canning factory, the effectiveness of this trap depends on the strength of the clock gears. Effectiveness: 3/5 Inescapableness: 2/5Creativity: 2/5Overall: 7
If Dr. Light had been any slower on the uptake, Mega Man would have been blue soup.Effectiveness: 5/5Inescapableness: 5/5Creativity: 5/5Overall: 15
When in doubt, use a bomb. Probably the laziest crutch of any deathtrap, but none the less effective.Effectiveness: 5/5 Inescapableness: 3/5 Creativity: 2/5Overall: 10
Again, could be effective against a human, but a robot? This takes home the prize for ‘worst death trap.’Effectiveness: 0/5 Inescapableness: 0/5Creativity: 1/5Overall: 1
I’m crowning Electric Nightmare’s acid trap as the best since it’s the one that ‘almost got ‘im,’ but it’s close between that and the walking lab. The horse deathtrap is definitely the worse (c’mon Wily…). This list isn’t comprehensive (and my rankings are subjective!), but it should at least satisfy some morbid curiosity about the Mega Man cartoon.
