#camp17

tomorrow morning i’m heading back to camp 17′s “best camp ever”. for those of you like me, you’re still not entirely packed... oops. as i was there last year, here are some tips to make the most of your experience.

1. bring a camera (duh). you don’t need to bring an expensive dslr tho. there is a photographer who will upload pics to smugmug, but you should bring a polaroid (super fun and ‘aesthetic’) and/or a disposable camera (like from cvs). take lots of pictures

2. WRITE STUFF DOWN!! you’ll be really glad you did!! i didn’t bring my bullet journal to camp, rather typed detailed notes about my days into my phone towards the end of the day. i still look back to my writings from last year and get all nostalgic

3. contact info!!! you will definitely want to keep in touch with all the cool people you meet. make sure you exchange info (phone numbers, instagram, snapchat, etc) before you leave!!

4. SHUT UP!! stop. yelling. when. you. see. tyler. and. bethany. just stop it. it’s annoying and obnoxious. you have all week, i swear you’ll get to hang out with them. the experience is SO MUCH BETTER when we all treat them like human beings and we all just have a fun . chill time. don’t crowd them. this isn’t a zoo, stop staring. (this drove me nuts last year sorry)

5. let loose! have fun! live in the moment because before you know it, this week is over. do the talent show (if you have a displayable talent), actually do the trapeze and ropes (don’t be lame like some people i saw last year. you’ll see me crushing on the climbing wall and flying on the trapeze, don’t be a party pooper)

6. be responsible! last year, i made the mistake several times of being late to the nurse and therefore not getting my meds. AVOID THIS!! go in your pjs, it doesn’t matter, just go go go. don’t make my mistakes. (@ me tbh)

7. be respectful! this camp is super super super diverse. don’t assume anyone’s gender/pronouns (you shouldn’t anywhere, but be extra careful here) based on cabin assignment . just ask. it’s all cool, just be aware. 

8. be organized!! your life will be so so much easier if you unpack in an organized fashion

9. no one cares what you look like!! you do not need to paint a whole face on every morning (we’re outside doin stuff a lot, it may sweat off). don’t feel like you need to be all dressed up. wear comfy, breathable clothes

10. DRINK!! you’re moving around a lot. don’t get heatstroke

11. sunscreen is your friend. don’t get burned. although we are in the forest, you still need it. also bug spray. 

12. batteries. never enough batteries

13. shower regularly. don’t be gross.
