Just a few days ago I wrote about a tragic femicide that happened in Mexico in which the victim was the passenger of a driver who abducted, and now I must bring you a similar story.

Around 5 am of September 8, 2017, Mara Castilla (19) called a Cabify ride to get home after a night partying with friends in a bar in Puebla. The car was been driven by a man identified as Ricardo Alexis N. When Mara didn’t come home and was reported missing, Ricardo gave a voluntary statement to police, claiming that the teenager had asked him to drop her off a few blocks before they got to her house.

However, surveillance footage examined by the police shows Ricardo’s car getting to Mara’s street and parking there. It stayed in that place, with no one getting off, for almost 30 minutes. It’s too dark to see what’s going on inside, but there was a brief moment of light in which Ricardo is seen trying to grab something from the back seat, where Mara allegedly was. Soon after, the car takes off.

Following cell phone movements, investigators were able to follow Ricardo’s trace to a motel, where he checked in at 6:45 am of September 8 and stayed for about an hour and a half. When the room he used was inspected later, police found traces of blood in the carpet and the mattress.

On September 15, Mara’s body was found wrapped in a blanket next to a highway. It was determined that the blanket was from the motel, reinforcing the theory that she was killed there. The cause of death hasn’t been revealed yet, or if there was sexual abuse, but Ricardo is in custody and considered the main suspect.

Perhaps it’s only a creepy coincidence, but Mara’s friends reported that while they were in the bar, some guys were following Mara and taking pictures of her. It was also mentioned in the press that while she was missing, Mara’s family got an anonymous phone call saying the young woman was safe, which brought up the theory that she had been abducted by a human trafficking ring. However, now the prevailing theory is that Ricardo acted with no accomplices.
