Nini used Gina’s  terrible situation to make the discussion about herself. She told Ricky “I get it though, moving is a big deal.” and then continued to talk about her own possible move to Denver when she in no way shape or form gets what Gina is going through. Nini has never moved. She doesn’t understand how the history of her moves had made Gina distant, wanting to constantly push people away because of this exact fear: change. Nini is a character that is quite literally on the opposite end of the spectrum from characters like Ricky and Gina, she desperately wants change. Wanting to move of ur own volition and being forced to move 6 times in 7 years aren’t comparable situations for you to try and stand on and say you understand.

Gina has a rough past, we know the motive of her actions and despite some of the things she did in ep1-3 not being great we as an audience can actually empathize with her and understand her actions. Meanwhile Nini is written as a typical Disney MC: Someone who wants to have her cake and eat it too. She seeks desperately for change, desperately to be independent and mark her own territory and to carve her own path yet every time she does a solo about trying to become that the next episode she goes back to being jealous of Ricky or wanting to get back with him. She also involves herself and tries to say that she gets peoples situations all the time when she doesn’t. All she knows is what’s going on with them, she doesn’t actually feel what it’s like. She doesn’t GET it even though she always says she does.
