every time i see someone say "weellll you know you can show racism without being racist!! nobody has media literacyyy!!!" i think they sound racist. this isn't how you show racism in a story without actually being racist, this is literally just how to show your racism while pretending that's not what you're doing. this is just plain minstrelsy. the whole goddamn thing. these other white people think there's nothing wrong with it bc they're racist

yeah, claudia might have said those things, but not like this. yeah, louis has a lot to be sorry for, but said like that?? in those scenes?? armand is a terrible gremlin, but the racist, homophobic stereotypes and the way he's treated? "unreliable narrators", sure, but more racist than ever before with less substance? sure, they're all monsters, but they're not these characters. these are not the same monsters as before. i don't know these people. i didn't know characters i love so much could get butchered like this, like.. i didn't know fucking up this bad was an option?

i swear to god, even the way the camera moves is racist. the way it looks in with contempt at the Black actors, flickers over Assad Zaman like he's unimportant, and how it lingers over Lestat, trying to make us feel sympathy for a man who can only be fully recognized in a genre these people so obviously revile. every single detail with this show is dripping with resentment towards the characters, the genre, the whole premise of the show back to season 1.

i think Rolin Jones and most of the writers made the first two seasons with the intention of laughing at them later, hating themselves and the barely acknowledged Black writers. did they ever have any intention of really loving the Black characters they introduced or did they just put them in there, truly believing it didn't fundamentally change the story?

whoever has been driving the bus just really fucking hates the first two season, deep down, and shouldn't be allowed to write like,, at all,, for at least a minute

i need these jackasses on writing probation or something, and we need more Black writers in this industry.
