because arknights did start more or less the same way? only treating reunion as the bad guys, desperately glazing the doctor and setting them up as this amazing figure, not saying anything beyond "we need to get out of here so you can help us". like arknights' writing is amazing and so deep and layered, but it very much also started off simple and with no depth until it eased you in the world and story. they are literally starting the same way, they even mirrored amiya at doctor's side when they woke up with perlica at endmin's side. we are literally still getting eased into the world right now, give it time to set things up.

now if it just stays this way with no added depths and layers as time goes on then you have valid grounds to criticize it, but you just can't look at a game that released a day ago and be mad that it doesn't have the same amount of layers and worldbuilding and story depth as a game that's been out for 6 years?

I feel bad because when I first watched LOK, I kind of dismissed Mako, only because I knew the outcome of the show (I'm an avid Wiki reader that spoils most shows for myself haha). But looking back at his character and everything, he totally deserves the love and respect. Just a very family oriented guy who has lost so much... Sure, he's done some dumb stuff, but they're forgivable (if I remember LOK correctly...). But really, orphaned as a young boy, who then has to take care of his younger brother, just trying to protect the Avatar because he cares so much for her, and is pretty selfless, just a little blunt with his actions... what's not to like? Haha.

And Suyin... Oh Suyin...

I'll admit, I liked Suyin in canon when I first watched it. I had a veil over my eyes. But after thinking about the Beifong family and their rift and everything in general... I have SO many issues with it ALL. Because of that, canon Suyin is infuriating to watch.

But I do have my own version of Suyin for my Taang AU, and just in my AUs in general because the bones of her character are good, but then the whole neglected child because your mother was a shitty parent, running around with criminals, scarring your sister's face, getting away with everything, and never apologizing for anything.... HMPH! So, I fixed her for me to not hate her, and so far it's worked. However, I agree the version of Suyin we see in the show is not worthy of the gem that is Lin Beifong.

Because LIN BEIFONG IS TOO GOOD FOR EVERYONE. And you know what sucks? We're supposed to feel like she's in the wrong for different situation/scenarios, especially when it comes to the Krew's decisions, she acts as their opposite, even antagonist. AND LIKE... she just wanted to protect people she cared about and everyone took her for granted.

I'm just frustrated because there are so many things about these characters that are supposed to add depth and show all these different dimensions that make a character more human... But it just makes the water muddy and ends up making the viewing experience frustrating when you see one thing and are told another...

shadowhunters is a bunch of good-looking people with tats running around on stupid missions. no, i really mean Stupid. this entire television series is trapped in the Dumbojet with no way out. and believe me, the flight takes forever to land. the entire big baddie storyline for seasons 1 and 2 is Valentine trying to collect items in order to raise an angel to like, come kill em all. boo, scary!

then he does raise the angel, at last, after 120 long and ardeous episodes, during which i finish five sewing projects and clean the house. and the angel is like LOL NO THX. and that’s it.

?????????? LMAO. what a great culmination to the storyline. not to mention the incest-or-no-incest love-triangle mess which, just, um, No.

i mean, i get it. the show is trashy and stupid, but it has good-looking people. it’s not all-white. it has several central female characters. it has an LGBT couple that sometimes do stand close to each other (though in this episode i’m watching from season 3, they are once again having conversations from the opposite ends of the room LMFAO none of the hetero couples shout at each other from opposite ends of the room but OK)
