So in The Daughters of Fire and Earth series, I’m making my mind up on what Toph’s future will look like IF she doesn’t become Chief of Police.
And not gonna lie, considering that her academy becomes a safe haven for the destitute especially children who are neglected and people who are fleeing from terrible lives is nice. Just thinking of Lin, Suyin, and Izumi growing up in this communal space that serves not only to teach the next generation of earthbenders but also harmony amongst people from all walks of life. In the center is their mother who huffs and grumbles about all the noise but she never turns someone away from her gates that’re sincere.
People come and they go when they find their footing in life, but there’s always someone else who needs a home badly. Like Zuko during the times when he can be away from court, and exist facetiously as just another man in the world eager to watch his girls grow up in love and care.
Imagine Toph’s delight when her husband and eldest daughter are home, their crowns put away. There’s dirt on Izumi’s feet when she chases after her sisters, disappearing into the nearby forest that serves as their playground with promises they’ll come back before dinner. Zuko just sits and watches them go, and his heartbeat isn’t frantic or dull. It’s serene. He doesn’t notice her yet, his arms full of the things the girls left.
Lin’s training weights she shucked off the minute she was done with practice.
Suyin’s terracotta dolls which are far more well made than even the toy makers in Republic City could.
Izumi’s glasses that she just couldn’t get used to wearing and refused to on her worst days; an act of rebellion that shocked some used to a docile, agreeable child. Toph grinned. That was healing, and her girl was no doll.
Before she can step out to go to Zuko and remind him the girls won’t be out soon, someone else glides along the stone until their feet strikes dirt. It’s an older woman, not enough to be considered a grandmother but well-versed in how to place her weight. Zuko is aware of her the minute she is at his back, and turns to speak to her.
Their voices are low. Toph can’t make out what is said but Zuko’s heartbeat softens and the woman bows before she leaves. Surprising. She lost her brother in the war, and her father in the chaos after. On all accounts, Toph considered hate would subsume to know the Firelord was present in the only safe haven she had from being sold off into marriage to pay their family’s debts.
But there’s a shift in Zuko’s steps, his boots point towards her, his strides even. There’s something sweet in the air, Toph holds her hand out instinctively and a paper-wrapped bun is set in it.
“Are there enough for the girls?” She asked, smile tucked against her cheek when he leaned down to kiss her.
“.. Yeah,” Zuko muttered, the word a sigh against her mouth, gratitude and perhaps love shudders his heartbeat. He’s overwhelmed, he’s happy, and if they weren’t in public - Toph assumed he would have done more than brush a featherlight kiss to her lips.
She smiled at the touch. Her silly, proper husband. Finding the collar of his tunic to tug him into a proper kiss isn’t hard. What is is grappling with the happiness she feels.
She had a place where love could flow freely, passing through hands and hearts like river beds through mountain peaks. Muddled at times, but the rain would wash away the debris and the water would clear.

9. Does this word (Spark) appear in your current WIP? - Technically...sparky? LOL also Sparks.
21. Do you prefer writing chaptered fics or one shots? - Definitely one shots, I don't know if I ever have written a true chaptered fic, so that's probably on the list of things I must do—
28. What area of writing do you want to improve in? - I think I need to improve on dialogue filler and connecting scenes together. I mostly write very specific things that are in my head but then it takes me a hot second to string them together into a story—
35. What's your favorite fic you've posted? - I feel like Knocked Up was a turning point for me. A longer form fic for Kantoph that kind of sparked a lot of inspo for me to write even more Kantoph!
43. Is there a trope or idea that you'd really like to write but haven't yet? - Been kind of writing this but haven't posted would be mafia romance. Also mayhaps fake dating for Kantoph? <3

31. What's the perfect date for them? - Low key them staying in bed all day LOL. But I think after Kanto makes a delicious meal or they go to their favorite food vendor in the markets, I think they'd like to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air, go back for a lil horizontal mambo <3
35. How do they deal with being away from each other for a long time? - That's a good question... I feel like they don't handle it well, the heart quietly longs for one another, but their exterior they pretend that everything's fine until they eventually break. If they can communicate (a lot of the long distance AUs I have are where one is on a mission and they can't talk without blowing their cover), then I think that helps soften the blow of not being with them. Both Kanto and Toph seem like physical touch kind of lovers so radio calls and letters don't quite scratch the itch.
44. How do they make up after a fight? - Besides a horizontal salsa? LOL. I think they just brood for a bit, until they finally decide to talk it out. They are both stubborn, so it could be days before they talk and resolve the issue. Kanto usually breaks, he misses Toph too much to stay mad <3 LOL
46. How do they make each other laugh? - Kanto just has to say something silly or goofy and he's got Toph's sides hurting. Also, they have a pretty good banter, so a simple quip about something they're chatting about has them laughing at inside jokes a lot
48. Who would bring home a homeless animal? - I'm answering because I must. Mister Kanto brings home multiple homeless animals. He's a softie for the little kitties that make their way to their yard <3 LOL

I'm kind of getting back /into/ writing consistently this year, so I feel like it's changed over the years (bc apparently I've been doing this for over six years now?? Insanity).
I probably have well over 50 WIPs or aspirational WIPs that I've collected over the years (some are shared with mutuals I write with), so it's a long list of stories to choose from to write—
But this year, I've mostly been trying to focus on works that I've been inspired to write vs. ones I personally feel obligated to write. There are some works in progress on AO3 that are abandoned, or maybe there are fics I've been working on for over 5 years but I struggle to write for, and I think it's better if I sit down with a WIP that I think the words will come easiest for vs. forcing myself to work on something that may not inspire me as much as something else.
It can obvi be a problem when you start to see things online and a new idea or AU comes to mind and totally consumes you, but even if the fic goes nowhere, I at least wrote for the day, and I couldn't say the same thing this time last year!
I try to balance it, though. I've been working on this one fic for most of the year, and I try to write for it once a week, try and jot down a few hundred words here and there to get it to the finish line. And then the rest of my week is focused on works that inspire me at the time! Which...there are many to choose from LOL.
But yeah! That's usually how I decide: something to consistently work on once a week until it's finished, then some other writings here and there that are occupying the mind.
