MIT scientists have created a carbon- cement concrete that stores electricity, in the hope to turn building foundations into massive batteries.

Researchers used the way that water reacts with cement to store enough energy to power a typical home.

All that's really needed are: cement, water & carbon black - a soot-like powder.

As water is absorbed, carbon black particles are deposited thruout the internal 'surface' areas...

Then, an advanced electrolyte (material that holds electrical charges) is added, forming an interconnected web of conductive "wires".

For the moment, it takes a foundation of, at least, 176.5 cubic feet to store 10 kilowatts of power.

That's enough for the daily use of a normal family...

But, what makes these supercapacitors so useful is their ability to charge & discharge energy quickly.

This makes them ideal to use together with solar cells &/or wind turbines...

And, this concrete capacitor's use can be expanded in other projects.

Its inventors are thinking of using them on electric roads that wirelessly charge EVs as these cars drive by...

🧮 How the Checkerboard supports this learning:

Students place number tiles along the bottom and the side of the Checkerboard to represent the two numbers being multiplied. Each tile aligns with a specific place value (units, tens, hundreds, thousands).

Students then multiply one digit at a time, placing beads in the colored squares where the bottom number and side number intersect. These intersections clearly show where each part of the multiplication belongs, making place value and quantity relationships easy to see and understand.
