UAE Wires and Cables Industry Expands Alongside Infrastructure and Energy Transition
The UAE’s wires and cables industry is becoming increasingly important as urban development, electricity infrastructure, smart-city programs, renewable-energy integration, and digital transformation accelerate across the country. Electrical cables form a foundational layer of modern infrastructure, supporting power transmission, building electrification, telecommunications, industrial facilities, and emerging data-intensive applications.
According to MarkNtel Advisors, the UAE wires and cables market was valued at USD 1.15 billion in 2025 and is projected to increase from USD 1.22 billion in 2026 to USD 1.70 billion by 2032. The study forecasts a 5.69% CAGR during 2026–2032. Building and construction accounted for nearly 33% of demand in 2026, while overhead installations represented approximately 58% of the sector.
Infrastructure Development Sustains Cable Demand
Large-scale construction and infrastructure projects continue to create requirements for electrical wiring, distribution networks, structured cabling, and specialized safety systems. Residential towers, commercial buildings, hospitality developments, industrial facilities, and public infrastructure all require extensive cable networks for lighting, HVAC systems, power distribution, communications, and building automation.
The UAE Government’s Energy Strategy 2050 aims to triple the contribution of renewable energy and mobilize AED 150–200 billion in energy investment by 2030. The transition toward diversified and cleaner energy sources increases the importance of transmission and distribution infrastructure capable of connecting new generation capacity with consumption centers.
Building and Construction Leads End-User Demand
Building and construction represented nearly 33% of UAE wires and cables demand in 2026, making it the leading end-user segment. The requirement extends beyond conventional power wiring as modern properties incorporate fire-resistant systems, smart building technologies, energy-efficient equipment, security infrastructure, and IoT-enabled controls.
Urban expansion across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah is reinforcing this requirement. As buildings become more digitally integrated, structured communication cables and low-voltage electrical networks increasingly operate alongside traditional power systems. This convergence is changing the specifications required from cabling systems and increasing attention to reliability, safety, and installation efficiency.
Overhead Installations Maintain a Strong Position
Overhead installations accounted for approximately 58% of the UAE sector in 2026. Their relatively lower deployment costs, accessibility for maintenance, and suitability for long-distance electricity transmission contribute to their significant role in utility infrastructure. Overhead networks are particularly relevant across transmission corridors and areas where underground installation may involve higher costs or greater construction complexity.
At the utility level, grid modernization is also introducing more automated network management. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has allocated AED 7 billion to its Smart Grid Programme, which includes grid automation, smart energy solutions, artificial intelligence, and other capabilities designed to support reliable and interconnected electricity infrastructure.
Renewable Energy Integration Creates New Requirements
The UAE’s energy transition is creating additional requirements for transmission and distribution systems. Solar generation facilities need suitable infrastructure to transfer electricity from generation sites to grid-connected load centers. As renewable capacity expands, cabling systems must accommodate changing power flows while maintaining reliability and operational resilience.
DEWA’s continued development of renewable-energy infrastructure illustrates this transition. Its smart-grid initiatives are designed to support increasing electricity demand and integrate advanced technologies across the network. This broader shift creates demand for high-performance power cables, grid connectivity systems, and equipment suitable for modern energy infrastructure.
Digital Infrastructure Adds Another Demand Layer
The UAE’s growing digital economy is also influencing the cable landscape. Data centers, cloud computing facilities, telecommunications networks, and AI infrastructure require high-capacity power distribution and high-speed fiber connectivity. These facilities operate continuously and therefore place considerable emphasis on cable reliability, power density, redundancy, and thermal performance.
The importance of digital infrastructure is reflected in national utility planning. DEWA’s recent smart-grid developments include automated systems intended to improve electricity distribution reliability and respond to Dubai’s expanding urban and economic requirements. Such developments demonstrate how electrical infrastructure is increasingly intertwined with digital management technologies.
Industrial Electrification Broadens Applications
Oil and gas, manufacturing, transportation, and other industrial operations represent additional areas of cable demand. Industrial environments often require specialized power, instrumentation, control, and fire-resistant cables designed to perform under demanding operating conditions. Electrification initiatives are also encouraging greater use of electricity within traditionally fuel-intensive operations.
For example, ADNOC’s offshore electrification project involves a subsea transmission network connecting offshore operations to TAQA’s onshore power network. The project highlights how advanced transmission infrastructure can support both industrial operations and energy-transition objectives.
Overall, the UAE wires and cables landscape is being shaped by construction activity, grid modernization, renewable-energy integration, industrial electrification, and digital infrastructure. With building and construction holding nearly one-third of end-user demand and overhead installations accounting for around 58%, future development is likely to remain closely linked to the country’s evolving power and infrastructure requirements.
