All’s Fair in a Burning House
In Rorikstead, a little girl does not grieve.
posted another longer-than-usual short story to my ao3! this one is a Britte character study, fitting within the continuity of Efri’s narrative. Britte is a character that I feel is not extended nearly enough understanding and grace and I hope I was able to do her justice in this piece. It’s quite a sad one, so if you do choose to read it please be mindful of the content warnings - I’d hate to upset anyone (beyond, you know, the bounds of what is normal to want when writing something sad.) If you do care to read it, I appreciate it and thank you most kindly, and if you tell me your thoughts on it I will combust on the spot. thanks!
Sissel: Oh! Britte, how was your day?
Britte: HORRIBLE! And stop interrogating me!
Sissel: Mine was great. Thanks for asking.
if you haven’t killed lemkil and tried to kill britte at some point you’re on my dni list
(Poll) Skyrim: Which Child Do You Want to Adopt?
In Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, you have an option to adopt a child (or adopt children. But the limit is 2. 6 if you get a mod) if you install Hearthfire. Some children have their own past revealed as to why they are orphaned and their own hardship.
Alesan - He and his father (a sailor) were on a boat when his father got sick. The crew dropped the pair off at Dawnstar and left without them. Alesan's father died a few days later. He delivers food to the miners in Dawnstar to make money to survive. At night, he can be found sleeping on the floor in the Windpeak Inn.
Blaise - His parents were members of the Imperial Legion but both were killed in an ambush. He's only surviving by working on a farm that he hates. He has to sleep in the stables with the animals. (If you're a Stormcloaks and you adopt him, it would be ironic. Because of his parents were part of the Imperial Legion)
Lucia - When Her parents died, her aunt and uncle took over everything they owned, and then they kicked her out because she was "worthless." She's a beggar in Whiterun. A surly, drunken hobo in Whiterun is nice to her.
Sofie - Her mother died when she was young and her father was a Stormcloak soldier who was killed in battle (or didn't come back). She sells flowers in Windhelm. Windhelm looks cold. (If you side with Imperials it would be ironic of you adopt her, because her father is/was a Stormcloak)
Francois Beaufort - He's one of the orphans that live in Honorhall Orphanage. He mentions that his parents dropped him off there a year ago, but never came back. Despite them saying they'll return for him. He and the other orphans were miserable because of the headmistress of the orphanage Grelod the Kind.
Samuel - He's one of the orphans that live in Honorhall Orphanage. His mother, who worked at the orphanage, died when he was born and the fate of his father is unknown. Like the other orphans who lived in Honorhall Orphanage, he suffered under Grelod the Kind
Hroar and Runa Fair-Shield parent's fates are never mentioned. Hroar mentions that his late mother told him his name is inspired by a roar of a lion. Runa Fair-Shield claims that because she's the only girl at the orphanage, the boys pick on her and make her do all the chores. They are both live in Honorhall Orphanage, suffering under Grelod the Kind's cruelty.
Sissel and Britte are twin sisters and not orphans but you can make them one after killing their abusive father. Britte often beats on Sissel. Sissel gets worse treatment from both Britte and her father. Their father doesn't seem to care for the two of them. Sissel is learning magic from Jouane Manette, who says she seems to possess a talent for it, and talks about visions of a kind, elderly dragon. (You can adopt one of them or two of them. Or none of them. But at least Runa won't be the only girl there. And they will be taken care of better if you kill Grelod the Kind.)
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim - Which Child Do You Want to Adopt? (You can only adopt 2. Unless you have the mod that allows you to adopt 6): https://strawpoll.com/a72yxpad8

A beautiful day in Rorickstead :)
In einer Welt aus Widersprüchen lässt sich nicht gut denken und reden, weil jeder Gedanke sich selbst aufhebt und jedes Wort sein Gegenteil meint. Zwischen Paradoxien findet der Geist keinen Platz.

Mama, what is wrong with adults in this land?! Here I am, minding my own business and just trying to get to Whiterun so I can murder a guy for the Dark Brotherhood. Now, to get to Whiterun from where I’m at, I have to pass through this little place called Rorikstead. Fine, I can work with that, small settlements are charming.
But I immediately run into this farmer Lemkil, who happens to be downright abusive towards his two daughters. Everyone here knows it, it seems, but no-one is willing to make him stop. And then one of the girls, Britte, turns around and heaps that abuse right back on her younger twin, Sissel.
Well you know what? Screw that. That man, this place, the culture that says no-one can interfere, I’m done. Those girls are coming with me, and I am protecting them, and Britte will have to shape up or get left in town with a caretaker.
Ugh. How can anyone treat children like that? Children, family... nothing is more important. The family has to come first, and he was spitting on the very concept! ... I did leave him alive, but if I hear so much as a word from one of my ducklings that he’s given them trouble I’m introducing his throat to my knife.
Love you,
Meri
