Repost via @runforchinatown (My take is in the comment section) Back on May 1st 2020, upon completing the first Run for Chinatown 12-hour challenge, I received a DM from @goldendinerny offering some much needed sustenance post 61 miles. They said to come on in for a meal on the house. It was a much appreciated gesture but I already had some oily cheesy pepperoni pizza plans. Fast forward to last week - Golden Diner suffered a fire from a small machinery explosion damaging much of the restaurant. I’ve never met Chef Sam or stepped foot inside the diner before, but for the Golden team to come outta nowhere last year and generously offer to cook me a meal, it shows something. Something MORE. Well now I’m inspired to do something MORE. Impromptu CHALLENGE: MONDAY NIGHT MADISON STREET MARATHON - running up and down the 1.2 mile stretch of Madison St (where Golden Diner is located) until I hit 26.2, to help raise funds to get those pilots lit, pans flippin, and fryer poppin again. As an on-again off-again cook and would-be restaurateur, I got strong feelings for the gruel, grit, and grind that restaurant workers & operators endure. Nowadays, I’m probably better at running around in these streets than doing the restaurant kitchen dance, so I’ll do what I do best. This is how Run for Chinatown was born. Born from a challenge. Born for the community. Born to run. Link in bio to donate $26, or whatever your heart desires and wallet can spare, to the Fire Fund. Find me and the @runforchinatown team somewhere on Madison St this upcoming Monday evening. All are welcome to hop in and out at any point. Food industry peeps especially, I know you’re (probably) off. #runforchinatown #supporchinatown #chinatown #chinatownnyc #breaklimits #nolimits (at Golden Diner) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRsFOGmnOxA/?utm_medium=tumblr
