I pulled this one off the shelf. It appears I am alone in not liking this book. It’s insanely well reviewed. 4.5 on Goodreads. What!? It’s an interesting format but that’s precisely what bothered me. I wanted more finished stories! 2 stars

Five stars. What a good story. The entire novel is a character study in two woman and their intense relationship (a housekeeper and up and coming writer). I will be shouting about this book for days and weeks
I am woefully behind on my reading goal for this year.
This book is quite incredible. Nonfiction that reads like fiction which is my kind of nonfiction.
I watched the show and this book was still completely riveting and covered so much more ground. The level of fuckery. Prepare to be enraged and w/ renewed skepticism of the pharmaceutical industry and its governing bodies.
I hit my goal. 12 months, 12 books in 2025. I realized this yesterday. It’s December 29th so I had 1 day to spare.
Miranda July be Miranda July-ing in this book. Strange, weird, fascinating, a little too much…a little confusing. I didn’t get the epilogue reference. But she had me turning this pages and can’t say I disliked it
enjoyable format and story. a look into fucked up lifestyles of trustfund-havers. nothing amazing though. quite obvious that this is the same writer of 'fleishman is in trouble' (i watched that show with a bit of disdain). sorry for the lackluster review.

Marlon’s high school friend, Chris Sweeney, wrote this book and it was presented to me as a gift. It was very good! To be non fiction and to hold my attn on a subject that I had never previously considered is a feat. Roxie was a super driven and unique woman. It’s a story worth telling and hearing.
4 stars: FASCINATING… the subtitle says it all. What a time to be in magazines. To have your job bankroll almost everything about your life (home downpayment, 40k annual clothing budget, unlimited town car access) so you can play the part… unreal.
With great high comes great lows and we know it all bottomed out. But now I personally feel the nostalgia: I yearn for taste making + culture delivered via monthly magazines vs hourly social media algorithm slop :/
Summer reading update
I'm behind on logging my reading feats. I'm on my 9TH BOOK of the year! Actually impressed with myself.
Of late: 1. The Immortalists - 2-3 stars. Too fantastical. I love love love magic, but did not love this book.
2. Never Let me Go - just shy of 4 stars? Interesting concept (future facing, even though the way these kids talk adn act, paired with the english countryside settings makes it seem old timey), slow burn. Engaging. Would read Kazuo Ishiguro I think
3. I Regret Almost Everything - 4+ stars. Keith McNallys memoir came into my orbit via 'Celebrity Book Club' stellar review...and then Kareem R. also said he liked it on social media. So I picked up this hardcover and brought it on my Greece trip. Fun, insightful, self-deprecating, juicy. Highly recommend even if you coudl give two shits about the NYC resturant scene.
VERY excited for my 'next up' read...And personal reminder to do this (best books of 21st century)
