please tell us more about the weird but well-functioning kitten body? i’m having trouble imagining what that could even be
I don’t remember the specifics, but from memory since this was a surgery I assisted with, jellybean had a VERY thin muscular layer on her abdomen to the point where our surgeon couldn’t tell whether she had one while trying to do the initial incision! it was to the point where she called in our other DVM on staff that day to take a peek to see if she could identify it. they were eventually able to find it, but it definitely made suturing difficult.
the incision was also much larger than typical for a spay since there was a bit of a weird reading in her liver functions when we did pre-op blood work, so we wanted to be able to collect a biopsy. our surgeon typically keeps her incisions under an inch when possible, but had to cut from tail to ribs.
jellybean’s liver was absolutely massive! (iirc the biopsy didn’t come back with anything notable aside from big liver little cat.) & when we went to remove the ovaries those were also abnormally large for a cat of her size but still within normal limits.
next time I’m scheduled, I’ll try to peek at her emr to see if there was anything else weird about the procedure that I forgot!
