Like for example, a co-worker asks me how to do a random thing in MS Excel. I don't know either but I google it, open the first website and do as told. Co-worker's like "wow you know everything ✨️". Yet when I tell them, I just googled how to do it, they're still in awe of how much of a genius I am for typing something into google. Like, it's not a crazy idea.

Or my friend telling me they need a new phone bc the old one doesn't vibrate anymore. I asked if she already tried solutions on google. Her reaction, absolute disbelieve and a quick no. I mean, I couldn't repair it either, it's just broken, but I did a diagnosis bc sources on the internet said so. She was baffled how I knew all this. I didn't. I just searched it.

And it's not just these few cases, it happens all the time. And quite frequently with people who grew up using the internet. What is it with this? I mean I don't mind people thinking I know everything but I feel like a fraud bc all I do is using google to find a solution, yet that seems to amaze people just as much.

Do people just lack methodological competence?
