well anon I do actually have a lot of thoughts about this storyline, how they could have improved the beginning of it and how it might develop in season 10. I hope they don’t fuck it up!

oh true :/ i've mostly made my peace with it, but whenever i Remember i still get angry lmao. imagine if he'd retired instead. or at least died in an ordinary fire or something.

but ANYWAY. i was also talking with sofia @gayeddies that fandom in general has changed so much it's fascinating and often frustrating for us older fans (as in, fans not in their 20s and younger, since we grew up on a vastly different media landscape). for many people going canon is a non-negotiable aspect now, probably because so many shows do actually feature gay characters and couples, so the standards have changed! and standards changing is not necessarily a bad thing, but that also doesn't mean that a fanon popular couple who doesn't turn canon is an example of queerbaiting, which is what many people don't get lmao.

then again buddie is a specific example because canon HAS been teased both in and outside of universe, with the show's creator himself going on record about how much he loves will they, won't they (which for gay pairings pretty much means queerbaiting). so i do Get why some people are tired of that, and i think it's fair! in a way shipping something which you Know will never go canon can be easier. meanwhile with buddie we've been teased with a real possibility of it, so some frustration is def understandable imo, and you can't blame people for not wanting to engage with the source material the longer the will they, won't they lasts. like i'm sad so many people have moved on and i don't feel the same as them, but you can understand that.
