Today I was reminded that the local crows know who I am, and what car I drive.
I've been feeding the local crows, especially as they are migrating, for many years. About a decade. I know a few of the local ones know my face and probably my car, but today I got to watch as they recognized and followed my car a little over half a block.
I was at the intersection right before I had to turn down an ally to park behind my work, where I noticed 2 or 3 crows sitting on the top of the red lights. I saw them look at my car and inspect it a little. (My car does have at least one unique feature to it compared to other local models), and as I drove by when the lights turned green, I saw in my rear view mirror they were no longer perched on the light.
As I parked, I saw a couple landing on the building nearby, and as I opened the door I heard them calling to each other and looking at me. So. I walked myself towards them while holding my jar of peanuts, walnuts and dried fruit with no salt on any of it that I keep in my car for just those occasions, tossed a bit where they could see, and did not have to wait as they were loud and flew to within a foot of me as I was walking to get out of their way. They were so cute.
