I have often seen this fruit on roadsides while traveling the south, but I sampled it for the first time while I was in Pondicherry few weeks back. It's called Palmyra/Nungu / Panai Nongu /Tar. It grows on Palmyra palm 🌴 (the fan palm - whose sugary sap called toddy is fermented to make arrack or to produce palm sugar) And then the fruit must be cut off to reveal the three sweet jelly seed sockets( swipe left) ,translucent pale, similar to lychee but milder and no pit. The jelly part of the fruit is covered with a slender, yellowish brown skin. They feel like a mix between mangosteen and rambutan. My friend Surekha told me that I should try the Sharbat they make using Nungu Next time :) These are from my friend @kuriabraham's house and I ate all of them 👅 Do try ... . . . . . #traveltuesday #nungu #palmfruit #drink #bodycooler #fruit #naturalcooler #tasteofsouth #palmyra #tenderpalm #toddy #arrack #pondicherry #whiletravelling #fruitplant #chennai #traveltuesdays #throwbacktuesday (at Pondichéri, Puducherry, India)
