one of the reasons robins haven’t worked in batman movies (live action) is because a lot of the time the batman’s ignore any sensitivity or childishness,
because duh, movie batman for a more mainstream audience is going to be based on the mainstream misinterpretation of the character. in movies, a lot of the time, batman is depicted as the character- and not just the mask. i think comics make it easier to understand that batman is both himself and bruce wayne. there’s a third person and two masks, if that makes sense.
my point is that in the live action movies this is often ignored, because it’s a complexity that either a mainstream audience would struggle to understand- or the limits of those movies and just won’t allow for that depth.
it’s why i didn’t rlly like battinson))
one of the main reasons batman and robin *click* in media, is because bruce is a bit of robin. hes always been a child, and will always remain one. one of the reasons hes so good with children (fuck you bad bat-dad red hood comics) is because he connects with them.
now in the movies, hes childish enough, depending on the movie. but childish is different than being a *child*. in the movies he may occasionally be childish, but he lacks the tenderness to complete.
this clashes hugely with the batman and robin dynamic, batman *needs* that tenderness to even consider *having* dick grayson in the first place- this was mastered in BMAS— and for what i mean i recommend yall watch the episode “robins reckoning”
one part in that episode really stands out, when bruce walks into dicks room and comforts him about all the changes, all his fear, and the death of his parents. and with the vulnerability, dick helps bruce. THAT is batman and robin, partners. bruce was responsible for dick, comforted him, fathered him- at least a little. and then dick was able to help bruce, without knowing it.
that tenderness and compassion is lacking in modern batman, or at least the movies. but even in comics it’s hardly touched on. which is unfortunate because it’s what MAKES their dynamic. without it, as in the movies it is ALWAYS without it, robin cant be incorporated.
batman and robin are symbiotic,
any robin. in some way, batman is able to guide robin- father and love and we all know this.. and then because of that, robin is able to show batman how to deal with his *own* life (purposely vague here bc it depends on which robin)
but yk, whatever man.
