This chapter speakers on being graceful. In the sense that you should forgive and extend grace. Be reminded that life isn't perfect. Trust me. I know about imperfections. I make mistakes. I ruin my own days sometime. I dwell on feelings of the past. I often judge too harshly. I'm the momma who drops the F*bomb, daily. My kids and Husband know me so well. They've seen me at my best and almost daily, see me at my absolute worse. They are so full of extended grace towards me and my actions. Something that I don't alway do for myself. And, at times fail to do for others. But, this chapter is about letting go, remembering that tomorrow is a new day. Forgive. Move forward and know that good days are great and bad days are gone. Remain humble through it all and know that God is giving you new opportunities to do better. Grace. May you receive it and extend it to those who need it. ❤️ This was a great read for this week. When I first saw the Aya Sofya, I felt indifferent. My first thoughts were, "I'll just leave it until I start my tour as it will be like everything else here, old. Old now and still old then."
I was in my early 20s and had embarked on my first international expedition. Looking back, maybe my apathy stemmed from the personal roller coaster I'd ridden with gritted teeth in the lead up to my trip. I came with no expectations. I wanted to leave my past behind and find my future. How I was mistaken.
The beauty of a lot of these 'old' monuments in Europe and throughout the world comes from what they were and how they have evolved amongst the bustle of the present. Aya Sofya is one of those places that makes you just wish walls could talk.
This might not be the case for everyone that has been to this site, they might not find it as captivating as I did. I relished in visiting old churches like this one throughout Europe. They swell with the history of their people, capturing moments in time that we can learn so much from.
Aya Sofya stands out for me. I was 5 days into my trip, still a little jet lagged and my mind was busy with thought after thought. Entering this magnificent place, I stopped.
I took a deep breath and took in her beauty. I truly felt at peace.
The beauty of this old place of worship is seen from the moment you walk in. You can see the religions it has housed, now blended in a unique way you would never expect. The walls are covered in beautiful, tiled murals of Christian Saints and massive Arabic writings. The stunning candelabras hang low from the ceiling giving the interior a magical glow.
Aya Sofya saw many religions come and go, it's people and massive city evolved around it. As time wore on she showed her true colours, she was truly a building of 'holy wisdom', the direct translation of Aya Sofya to English. The site has been accepted by people of all different faiths.
I would highly recommend visiting Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofya) when exploring Istanbul, it is close to the major tourist area and the Blue Mosque. It is a great place for a bit of peace and quiet as the streets of Istanbul get very loud and busy.
Maybe I am sharing this story because it was a beginning. The personal journey I started in my European awakening parallels the reason a Golden April is coming to life.
