Finally made it to the Springfield Art Museum today! I focused on three of the current exhibitions: Universe by Emily Sullivan Smith, BLACK LIFE as subject MATTER II, and Enter the Cosmos: An Exploration of Art and Science. The exhibits were very moving and inspiring. Seeing the work that other artists in the area are creating motivates me to work harder on my own endeavors, and to contribute to the local community. I've been silent for a long time - because it was dear to my heart to I get back with a statement piece: We can see the statistics, we know the reality and none of us can imagine the hurt police brutality and racism brings into the lives of people who are black. Breonna Taylor is one of many names, one of many missed by their family, one of many deaths that could have been avoided. ( if you are unfamiliar with the case - I linked information in my Insta bio) This requires acknowledging the history of racism and the current statistics. This requires those who are not effected to listen nevertheless and speak up even when it's uncomfortable: Against unjustice and misuse of legislation or power, against slurs and prejudice. I didn't wanna let #blacklivesmatter die out. So here is a reminder for the art community - going into the media industry I will try to do my best to debunk hurtful stereotypes, to speak out against unjustice in the business and to hear what black artists have to say. I shot the reference picture for this at a protest I attended mostly to listen, to learn, to hear the struggles people of color face in Germany. We don't fight the fights Americans do - but we work on clearing the police of extremists - it's a hot topic here at the time. This is a reminder in case your feed is lacking justice again. The problems don't fade with the hype.
