“This is my favorite Black Skimmer photo that I have taken in all the years following a little-known colony,” writes Your Shot photographer Thomas C. “Every year I choose one nest [to follow] because colonies are chaotic and you will miss some shots by pointing the lens at hundreds of birds. To get out of the Florida heat, this baby used the shadow I cast from lying down near the parent. After getting into position an hour before sunrise and then waiting another hour, a parent flew in to give this baby a meal. The baby was inches from me, so I couldn’t get the feeding photo. However, after the baby gobbled down the fish, I captured this moment.” Photograph by Thomas C.
