Chapter 4:

By Saturday night, the atmosphere of the stream had completely shifted. Uzi wasn’t playing CoreBreaker tonight. Instead, her Twitch title read: JUST CHATTING AND REVIEWING FANART (DON’T MAKE IT WEIRD).

N sat on his bed with his laptop balanced on his knees, a soft smile on his face as the stream loaded. Without the high stress of her usual games, Uzi looked surprisingly relaxed. She was wearing an oversized black hoodie that practically could fit her whole entire body. Her purple hair framed her face messily, and she was sipping from a mug rather than her usual canned energy drinks.

Although this was different then her usual set up, the chat room was still filled with ninety thousand viewers. "Alright, let's see what you freaks posted on the subreddit this week," Uzi muttered into her microphone, clicking her mouse to pull up a digital gallery of community artwork. "If I see one more drawing of me looking like a cutesy anime mascot, I am shutting the stream down early. I am a creature of darkness and terror."

N leaned in, watching the web camera. It was rare to see her just talking to the room without a game screen blocking her face. He pulled up the channel point menu, checking his balance. Over the past week, he had gained a massive amount just from leaving her stream open in the background while he did his schoolwork. He didn't want to interrupt her art reviews, but he noticed her mug was sitting completely empty on her desk. He obviously made the correct and smart decision by clicking the 'hydrate' button.

@GoldenRetriever22 redeemed Hydrate: "Your mug is empty! u should refill it Also the fanart looks great! you look a little cute when your chibi 💛☕"

Uzi’s hand froze over her mouse. She stared directly at the eyecatching notification across her screen. Her expression changing instantly. The chatroom instantly changed, thousands of viewers recognizing the username and immediately spamming the text log with teasing comments.

Uzi slowly raised her eyes to the webcam, her dark eyeliner narrowing into an aggressive squint. "Retriever," she growled, her voice dropping into a dangerous, warning register. "Did you just call me cute on my own stream? In front of ninety thousand people?"

N felt a sudden, nervous jolt hit his chest. He pulled his face closer to the screen, face heating up as he stared at his screen. Uh oh, he thought, maybe I pushed it too far. "First of all," Uzi continued, leaning aggressively toward her microphone, her cheeks flushing a sudden, cherry pink that completely betrayed her tough exterior. "My mug is empty because I finished it. Second of all, you can't come into my chat acting like YOU own me! You’ve been here for what, a week? You don’t get to call the host cute! That is a highly flagable violation of community guidelines!"

But instead of clicking her moderation panel to timeout his account, she suddenly grabbed the empty black mug, pushing her chair back and standing up. "I am going to the kitchen to get more tea," Uzi huffed, pulling her black beanie lower over her burning ears to hide her face from the camera. "And I am only doing it because I want tea. Not because a guy named after a puppy told me to. Be quiet, chat. I'll be back in two minutes." She stomped out of her room, leaving her bedroom door slightly ajar.

The moment she left the frame, the Twitch chat completely lost its collective mind. The screen moved in swift motion with thousands of users tagging N's username simultaneously.

N sat back against his pillows as his heart hammered against his ribs. He looked at the empty gaming chair on his screen, a massive grin spreading across his face. He was still just a faceless watcher in a crowd of millions, but as he watched the chat room continue to explode over his single notification, he realized this part of his nightly routine was becoming the best part of his entire week.

As Uzi walked back into screen sitting down with her new cup of tea and her face still flushed as before, she watched as her chat spammed @GoldenRetriever22 and how soft Uzi had become over knowing this stupid guy.

"Everyone who's saying anything at all about Retriever can BITE ME!" Uzi exclaimed loudly as she slammed her mug onto the table, almost spilling it as she glares at her webcam.
