The same out-of-touch hosers that want us working from 3am to midnight 8 days a week while only being able to afford to sleep in a pod in a multigenerational household are wailing about the birthrate. Lol, like, where do they think babies come from? Who is going to make a baby under those conditions? Lmao.
Trump Administration: how can we get woman to have more babies? We've tried everything!
Woman/AFAB Folk: I would be happy with having a kid if you gave us better maternity leave, affordable housing, better medical care, gave school children free lunch, and made it safer for my kid to go to school so they don't get shot in the face.
Trump Administration: Maybe if we toss 5k and a mommy medal at them, they'll have more babies?
Why birth rates are declining:
• Many people decide to go to university instead of working after high school
• Nowadays everything is more expensive, even the basic things like food and house
• Many people want to build a career first and grow through their career
• Some people feel the pressure to take care of their older parents
• Some people want to stay single and live for themselves
• Some people are struggling to find a partner who they are compatible with (their wants, their needs and their long term goals)
• Some people grew up in an unhealthy environment
• Some people want to be childfree

The photo (TY Sharon) is of some of the crowds at Hebrew Book Week in Jerusalem. All over Israel, many thousands of adults and children eagerly seek out publications of printed material. No wonder we are called the People of the Book.
Chinese authorities pressure women to get sterilized or have IUD’s inserted, and government officials are sent to live with the women and watch to see if the women show any signs of discontent as they recover, the Times reported. One woman said that a Chinese government official sent to watch her groped her. Others told the publication that they were detained in internment camps for having too many children or refusing contraceptives. Still others said that they were forced to take drugs that stopped their menstrual cycles, and one woman told the Times she was raped in an internment camp.
An AP investigation previously found that the Chinese government has created a “climate of terror around having children, as seen in interview after interview.” Between 2015 and 2018, the latest years for government statistics, birthrates in the mostly Uighur regions of Hotan and Kashgar have plummeted by over 60%, while in Xinjiang, birth rates fell almost 24% in the last year alone. Those statistics compared to the 4.2% decline in birthrates across China, according to the AP.

prompt: your favourite pairing (hamatora. birthday/ratio.) a quiet confession, under freezing rain, while stuck outside person a’s apartment, on the fire escape.
ratio stares, dispassionately, at the man standing outside his kitchen window. the blonde taps his fingernails against the glass pane more urgently this time, but ratio could not have hoped to hear it over the violent drumming of rain against the roof of his apartment building. the stranger becomes more insistent, pounding the window with the underside of his fist and hopping from foot to foot urgently, showing off the pair of useless flip flops.
“ratio, you asshole,” birthday yells, barely audible, his lips never losing that small playful twinge, “i’m going to break this window and murder you!”
ratio raises a hand to his ear and pretends not to hear him. he can let him suffer a little more; if birthday can disappear for weeks with a terminal illness, it makes logical sense for ratio to forget he ever existed. if birthday can know him, and read him like the back of a milk carton, can predict that he will open his 11th floor apartment window in the middle of a typhoon just for a messy, electrical whirlwind of a boy that will never let ratio get too close, then ratio is allowed to delay the inevitable course of events just a little bit.
birthday halts his awful dance, almost like he can read ratio’s thoughts, like he knows and has prepared a special smile or grimace just for this moment–never an explanation. ratio should be the only one allowed to see straight through people. he moves across the tiled floor, unlatches the window, and slides it open to let in the gusts of wind, the torrents of rain, and a heavy humidity. birthday remains outside.
“get in here,” ratio says, pressing his palms against the windowsill and meeting his partner’s eyes for the first time. birthday shakes his head.
“come out here,” birthday says, wrapping his hands around one of ratio’s arms and pulling gently.
when they are both soaking wet on the fire escape of a building that sways with the force of the cyclone above them, birthday smiles gently (special, small, always prepackaged just for ratio). ratio frowns and clenches his jaw, his body shaking. he nods and understands and forgives simply because how could he ever not? they share an embrace, tighter than ever before. if the ending is predetermined, then they’re allowed to fudge up the middle parts just a little bit.
someone whispers i love you, or maybe they both do.
