so china passed a law that basically says: be Chinese (the way the Party defines it) or face consequences — and it doesn't matter if you're in Xinjiang, Tibet, Taiwan, or honestly just... somewhere else in the world talking about any of this.
mandatory Mandarin-only schooling starting before kindergarten. parents legally required to teach kids to love the CCP.
minority languages literally have to be displayed smaller than Chinese in public signage. and then there's the part that's freaking out Taiwan specifically — a clause that says people OUTSIDE China can be held liable for "undermining ethnic unity." scholars, journalists, randoms with family in China, all potentially in the blast radius.
