QUICK REMINDER bc i've been seeing things that make me wanna put this out there:
- transgender: not identifying with your assigned gender at birth (aka not cisgender); functions as a personal label and umbrella term
- non-binary: not identifying with the binary genders (male and female) aka secret third option; also an umbrella term and personal label THAT FITS UNDER THE TRANSGENDER UMBRELLA
i don't know if this got lost in translation at some point, but these are the base terms I learned when I was first being taught back in the mid 2010s.
Obviously, nothing about being queer is black and white, and you can use whichever labels you choose, but remember to make sure you at least know the basic definitions of the terms you use. If not for anyone else, for your own knowledge and understanding.
