First Sgt. Edward Welsh: “Property. The whole fucking thing's about property.”
- Jack, you're a grown man. You're in control of your own words. - You're goddamn right I am. Now here come two words for you: Shut the fuck up.
Midnight Run, Martin Brest (1988)
29-year-old Terrence Malick’s directorial debut premiered at the New York Film Festival on 13 October 1973.
Most critical reaction was positive, with some reviewers calling it “one of the most remarkable first feature films made in America.”
Shot on a budget of an estimated $400,000, Malick began working on the film in 1970, trying to raise money and complete his script, which is loosely based on the murders of Charlie Starkweather and his 14-year-old girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate.
Robert Estrin edited the initial cut of the film, but when Malick saw it, he fired Estrin and edited the film with Billy Weber (Estrin received the sole credit).
