Days 16 - 17, Williston, ND to Medora, ND - (1) state (ND), 131 miles, 2 1/2 hours
Beautiful drive south from Williston, ND past the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and through the Little Missouri National Grassland. Scenery was spectacular along the way. Coming into Medora, we stopped at Painted Canyon Visitor Center (a part of the Teddy Roosevelt National Park - South Unit). The overlook was breathtaking and just a small preview of what we would see the next day driving the scenic drive inside the park.
Spent Thursday touring the South Unit of the Teddy Roosevelt NP starting with the visitor center, which was very well done including an engaging video which detailed Roosevelt's love for the area. They say the ride around the 36-mile scenic drive takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours. It took us almost 3 1/2. There is just so much to see and hikes to do. Again, I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice but we thoroughly enjoyed the day. We both said it has become one of our favorite national parks and we've seen quite a few. This national park is a MUST SEE.
Our campground (full hookups) was within bike riding distance of downtown Medora, ND. A fun town with an old west vibe. Nice shops, restaurants, ice cream, fudge, saloons and quite literally the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
We are off to Montana!
