U R Welcome: Dr. Jennifer Caudle
āU R Welcomeā is the brainchild of Reuben āBig Rubeā Harley. Itās a series of interviews with black influencers and tastemakers in Philadelphia discussing race, community and how Philly can be a place where everyone is welcome. When Rube came to Saxbys with the idea, we jumped at the chance to work with him to tell these stories.
Youāve probably seen Dr. Jen CaudleĀ on TV. Sheās the incredibly knowledgeable family physician whoās a frequent guest on The Dr. Oz Show, Fox News, HLN, CNN, Good Day Philadelphia, and many other networks and programs. Sheās also a Family Medicine physician and Associate Professor in the department of Family Medicine at Rowan University-School of Osteopathic Medicine.
She sat down with Big Rube to discuss inclusivity and why Philly is a welcoming place for everyone ā regardless of their background.
What does inclusivity mean to you?
It means including all people ā all genders, sexualities, lifestyles, races, religions. You name it. In this day and age we need more inclusivity, and the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection is the best place to talk about inclusivity. Itās a comfortable, warm city. I feel like itās a city where you always say āhiā to people on the street. You know everyone, everywhere you go.
What does U R Welcome mean to you?
It means a whole lot of warmth. A whole lot of love. A whole lot of goodness. I think it also means giving too. When weāre open to other people not only do we give but we get a whole lot in return.
How does Saxbys fit into your busy life?
Saxbys is pretty amazing. Itās convenient. Itās all over the city. Iām a tea drinker. Their tea is great. Each cafe is a little different. Theyāre relaxing. Theyāre quiet. You can work. Itās great. Being a family physician, I get to see patients but I also do a lot of TV work ā so Iām often running around the city. When I need a quick pick me up, Saxbys is always there for me.
