Im happy teachers are back in classrooms and elated it wasnât a repeat of â89 teacher strike and last as long. Now, letâs take care of an ongoing issue, School Segregation. How can anyone in the academic world not see how school segregation is directly connected to perpetuating the two evils of cultural prejudice and #racism. Itâs imperative to expose the youth to the cultures of the world they will have to deal with to be successful with the Dreams they have planned. Best way to do this is to create experiences so they can broaden their comprehension of other cultures inside and outside the neighborhood and/or county they live in. @laschools @ymcala @boysandgirlsclubla @developingoptions @usedgov @betsydevosed @universitypathways_theu @audubon_middle_school @crenshawhigh #BeyondTheBell #Education #teachers #parents #youth #family #classrooms #school #daycare #fostercare #afterschoolprogram #empowerment #segregation #GoodMorning #CulturalDiversity #ExposureExperience #EraseRacism #ThisIsAmerica #PeterFinch #UNUMOLIO #222 #ItTakesAVillage https://www.instagram.com/p/BtOddOkhjPD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=yzoko0t06e4l

Beyond the Bell: Mr. Gambill
We know Mr. Gambill as the teacher who goes on trips to Europe with students and as a helpful guy when it comes to history questions on Trivia Crack. However, what donât we know about Tsar Gambill?
Mr. Gambill has two sons: Brahm and Soren. He states that he canât believe they are still alive today with all the crazy adventures they undertake. Gambill shared a story with me about his sons that showed what a great parent he really is. He was mowing the front lawn while his kids played on the trampoline out back. The boys became curious as to whether the trampoline would still work if it had holes in it or not; so, they ventured inside to grab a few steak knives and started jumping on the trampoline with them in order to puncture holes in it. Eventually, Mr. Gambill went to see what they were up to, and luckily, they were still alive. He stated, âTogether they are B.S., and if you meet them, youâll know why.â
The infamous tsar attended Hillsdale College, and it was the best time of his life; he would recommend it to anyone. He was in the fraternity Sigma Chi for three years where he participated in speaker divingâliterally diving off of giant speakers hoping his friends would catch himâand their annual mud slide. He has made it known that he was unaware the college had a library or a weight room until heâd graduated because he had never set foot in either before then. When asked why we should all attend college, he said we should give our parents a break since theyâve earned it, and also to practice being a grown-up because âitâs all on you.â
During college, Mr. Gambill student-taught at Hudson and got to know everyone, so it was a fairly easy choice to seek a full-time teaching assignment here. He learned everything he knows from Mr. Borton and Mr. Redding, which is kind of scary when you think about it. He chose to teach history and economics because of all the great teachers heâs learned from in the past who had inspired him. He truly believes students take a lot away from history classes, and also that econ. helps students prepare for their financial futures.
He is embarking on yet another European trip with students this summer, and he is overly thrilled about it. He is very excited to return to Switzerland to witness its breathtaking beauty. He believes the entire country looks like it could be on a postcard.
Besides traveling through Europe, some of Mr. Gambillâs other hobbies include runningâthough he says he is too short, fat, and oldâskiing, golf, aviation, reading, and collecting rifles. He may be known for his corny jokes and inability to know when to stop talking, but Mr. Gambill knows how to keep you on your toesâa trait you may need if you hang around his knife-wielding children.

Beyond the Bell: Mrs. Schoonover
Many know her as Mama Schoon: class advisor (for every grade), prom director, play director, drama teacher, debate coach, and so much more. How she handles it all, no one knows. What else makes up this super woman? I went straight to the source to find out. Schoon has two children: Hannah and Garrett. Garrett graduated from U of M, and Hannah is currently a sophomore at U of M. Schoon got her undergraduate at Ball State and graduated with Brady Hoke. Ball State is also where David Letterman attended college. She began her Masters at Siena Heights and finished at Spring Arbor University because she met Mr. Miller and he inspired her. She then stated that we should all attend college to party and to pay thousands of dollars to the institution in order to find ourselves. Schoon chose Hudson because Hudson is her homeâand they offered her a job so...yeah. Her competition when interviewing was a guy wearing white socks and high water pants, which is the person Miller voted to have on staff. She originally wanted to teach deaf education, and although she is in the public school system, she feels like she is part of deaf education anyway. Her favorite part of teaching English is the grammatical aspect, which is the total opposite of Miller. A fun fact about Schoon is that throughout her entire high school and college career, she never had to read Shakespeareâlucky duck. Her favorite book to teach in class is Othello. When asked what character she related to the most, she replied quickly with, âDesdemona, duh. She is full of grace, innocence, and wonderfulness.â Schoon loves debate because she wins all of the time and is always taking home trophies and different awards. She likes her drama class; however, there is too much drama in that sixth hour drama class. She loves every one of the plays she has directed and had trouble deciding which was her favorite. âMy favorite would have to be Beauty and the Beast...No, Fiddler on the Roof...no...Anything Goes...well maybe...Willy Wonka...UGH!â She is extremely excited to start working on our play this yearâThe Wizard of Oz. When asked about it she stated, âItâs going to be huge.â She wants everyone to come try out or come and watch this amazing production. Also, contrary to popular belief, this play is not about Dr. Osborne. Schoon is a major aspect to keeping this school running. She cares deeply for her students and always has their best interests at heart. She loves seeing her students succeed and continue on with their dreams in life. Schoon has a lot on her plate, but she always finds time to help students because she cares so much about them. Next time you see Schoon, tell her thanks for all she does for this student body, school, and community. Without her, weâd have to deal with Mr. Millerâs craziness all four years of high schoolânot to mention we wouldnât get prom. So thanks for everything, Mama Schoon. - Jocelyn Messer
