♡ - romantic headcanon: for Freyr!

Freyr is a golden retriever boyfriend/husband and lights up whenever Gerdr or Skirnir walk into a room. Obviously, he is Gerdr's husband but he tends to bring them both flower crowns for no reason. He pretends they’re for “ritual purposes.” which Gerdr finds adorable, Skirnir on the other hand isn't sure what to feel about it. (He swore he saw Freyr give Byggvir and Beyla one too XD)

Freyr has a sacred grove in alfheim that expands to include a personal garden that Gerdr tends to, full of beautiful plants from her homeland. This was one of his many gifts to her for marrying him, he really wanted her to feel at home! Sometimes Freyr invites his servants to help him, this includes Skírnir who he insists he hates gardening. Then Freyr catches him humming while watering the herbs.

Gerdr braids Freyr’s hair when he’s tired or anxious. It started as a joke, Gerdr finding his long blonde curls irresistible not to touch, but Freyr melts under her hands every time. Fjölnir, their son likes to help, tangling it into awful knots Freyr wears proudly anyway. They also once tried bathing in a hot spring together, and Freyr got so flustered at seeing her in the mist that he slipped and nearly drowned. Gerdr laughed harder than she had in years.

They slow dance in silence sometimes. No music, no ceremony—just the sound of wind in the trees, and Freyr resting his head on her shoulder while the world holds still. Fun fact, Gerdr didn't know how to dance and was very clumsy when Freyr first tried to teach her!

Sometimes when Freyr and Gerdr disagree on something, they argue in whispers, not wanting Fjölnir or their servants to hear them. Freyr always apologizes first, but Gerdr always finds a quiet way to make it right, she feels a little guilty for always being the one to start it. She gets nervous when Freyr is away for too long. She’d never admit it, but she stands by the gate waiting. Freyr always rushes into her arms the second he returns, telling her how much he missed her.
