Billy Bones Appreciation Week
Day 7 - Free Choice
At a point in his life, if you asked those closest to him, one word would describe Billy, Good. Gates would boast he was a good sailor, Flint would concede he was a good Quartermaster, Abigail would insist he was a good man. Even John Silver would tell you he was a good friend. But life brings compromises, and with each Billy felt he compromised himself, compromised some of that goodness. Flint had convinced him that the Urca gold was better left buried and forgotten, better England and Spain fight each other over rumor of its location then loose their lives over it. Lots had been drawn and the six who lost followed Flint onto the island and never returned. Billy had been entrusted with the map because Flint knew he was the one man who'd tell the Captain to fuck himself should he ever want to go back for it, and he was the only one who saw the gold for what it was, evil and destructive. After the disaster that tore Nassau apart and destroyed his crew Billy thought all that was good in life was gone.

Billy Bones Appreciation Week: Day 6 - Most Empowering Moment
Billy succeeds where Flint and Eleanor (two of the most powerful people in this world) failed.
Day 6 – Most Empowering Moment
In Season 1: When he became quartermaster and became responsible for the careening of the ship, succeeding/taking over from his mentor and self-proclaimed father figure Gates. It showed the trust the crew had in him, his standing with the crew, Gates and Flint, and also his abilities – he takes on the new position and its responsibilities with seriousness and enthusiasm, and proves to be very good at what he does. Even Flint – who previously claimed not to know Billy („How's Billy?“) says to Silver „I trust Billy“; something that few people will be able to achieve in the series.
In Season 2: Billy's ‘betrayal’ of Dufresne, in which Billy made the conscious decision to support Flint and his plan for Nassau, despite how he may or may not feel about Flint and the murder of Gates. After a lot of back-and-forth about whether Billy will betray Flint or not, he asserts himself and makes his stance clear in front of the crew. He also continues to support Flint and his captaincy. Differently than in S1, he is not so torn over his decisions – he makes them fully informed and stands behind them, not needing a figure like Gates to validate his opinions or talk him out of them.
In Season 3: Everything after him staying in Nassau to 'stir up trouble', basically – Billy becomes more active, shows (hidden) talents as an agitator and the man behind the curtain, who uses superstition, stories and such to try and turn the pirates in Nassau against the British, and towards the resistance. He also makes the choice to fashion a new 'legend', Long John Silver, thereby making the resistance less about Flint and Flint's choices alone, but instead giving Silver and himself the possibility to make their own decisions and assert their own agency as well. However, in a way, it also an incredibly tragic moment – as readers of TI know, Billy essentially creates the very pirate legend and props up the same man that he later on fears and who hunts him down, ultimately (indirectly) causing his death.
So, ironically, some of his most empowering moments that season are also his most tragic and dis-empowering, in a way.

Day 6 - Most Empowering Moment: Billy creating the legend of Long John Silver.
I think Billy fully realizes his potential as a leader (and a storyteller) by the 3rd season finale. He realizes how much he can influence the direction of this war and be more than just the guy who aids their “King” -- he can be the one who crowns him instead.
