My interpretation of Harap Alb, the main protagonist of one of the greatest Romanian folk tales, which is about the symbolic journey to another world and implicitly to maturity and spiritual evolution and complexity. The first scene is from the prologue when the young prince is called by an old poor woman who asks him to give her a coin.Ā
She is in fact the embodiment of a supernatural being representing wisdom and caring, called "Sfanta Dumineca", who sees in him "the Chosen One" and her mission is to test his moral qualities, a crucial step in becoming the ideal Emperor after his journey.
Ā The second scene depicts the ending after Harap Alb is revived and achieves the condition of becoming Emperor/King and is crowned by his grotesque friends he's made along his journey. They all are embodiments of satiric human flaws portrayed in a humorous manner (cold, elongation, hunger and thirst to name some).
