Remembering your old life

★ Opening up about where you're from was hard. Figuring out what words to say was even harder. A curt, "Far from here." Is all you can manage when first asked. Not knowing how else to put it.

★ But it's true. Wherever you used to live is far, far away. Like some distant kingdom at the beginning of a fairy tail. Because it might as well be. The neighbors seem to accept this explanation. Going along with it as though it makes perfect sense.

★ That's another thing you've gotten used to. Simple explanations. Thing's being taken at face value. Everybody, save for Frank and Julie, seems to have little interest in learning about where things come from. Like the migration pattern of birds! Or the reasons for why things are the way they are.

★ The two of them actually enjoy listening when you ramble about plants. Strange ones, ones they haven't heard about. Black mold and fly traps. They don't grow around here. Frank is half-convinced you are fibbing about a few. What do you mean there are plants that eat bugs???

★ It took awhile, but you finally started participating in Sally's plays. Though it's mostly backstage work. Helping her put together sets. Picking rolls for the others. It's not Hamilton, but you've learned to enjoy it.

★ The struggle meals you once ate out of necessity? They taste like old memories now. Even crappy dollar store ramen would be okay. Because it's something Home doesn't have. Something real. Albeit incredibly processed.

★ Poppy can knit just about anything. If there's a show or game character you adore, she could absolutely make you a plushie! So long as you give her a reference, that is. Offering you a little something to sooth what you miss. It sits atop your bed.

★ There's a jug of coins somewhere in your room. Collected from here and there. Nobody really uses them. Still, it feels nice to have. Just in case you ever need some cash. There is probably 30-ish dollars in it by now.

★ You don't like talking about your old home. But when Wally asked, you tried to be honest. “A very big, very lonely place. Where we had different rules. And the windows didn't watch me.” You said matter-of-factly.
